With summer just around the corner, it pleases us to be able to announce the first in a 2-part collaboration between East London's Outlet Collective & Brighton's Digital Soul Records; a collaboration which, over the course of these 2 events, will showcase, not only music and artists from the Digital Soul roster, but also key artists - inspirations and collaborators - that continue to inspire them on their mission.
Since their inception 3 years ago, Digital Soul, with their ever-present, strong sense of quality control, have been unleashing a steady stream of first class deep n' funky, sometimes Detroit inspired, electronic dance-music from their stable of extremely inspired producers; namely Splinterfaction a.k.a. Mik Poynter (Previously releasing on the now defunct Ugly Cutz label), The Monolith a.k.a. Andrew Moorse, Derek Carr (Trident, Psychonavigation), D5 a.k.a. John Harvey/Dimension5 (Delsin, Raygun), as well as remix pressure coming from such revered artists as Duplex, Anthony "Shake" Shakir and on the imminent Splinterfaction remix e.p. (See Below details*), Fabrice Lig, $tinkworx and our guest for this party, the one and only Dan Curtin.
...A man that needs little introduction, Dan is the DJ/Producer behind legendary Metamorphic label. An artist who, for over a decade, has, under his own name and a number of aliases included the 'Purveyors Of Fine Funk' project, been releasing his constantly evolving, unique take on house & techno via a whole plethora of labels including a number of classic full-length releases for the ever on-point Peacefrog. In a recent, particularly enjoyable interview ( http://www.11-hour.com/features/archive/dancurtin.asp ), Dan explains his approach to DJing - Fusing the vibe and atmosphere of his selections as opposed to adopting a purely 'feet-pleasing' approach - an approach which fits in with the musical ethos of both Outlet & Digital Soul perfectly, and it is with much anticipation that we welcome him for what has become an EXTREMELY rare London performance!
What's more, showcasing a selection of his own material and influences will be Digital Soul's very own Splinterfaction. Responsible for the first 2 (and no doubt more!) D.S. releases with further remix work on DS03, Mik has made particularly big waves with his 'Ultraism' e.p.; a release garnering the rather humbling acclaim, "one of the best techno records never to come out of Detroit", that has since been licensed to a number of mixes and compilations, rubbing shoulder with tracks from many of the techno elite, such as Carl Craig and Jeff Mills, not to mention gaining DJ support from Claude Young, Ian O'Brien, the Delsin crew and a lot more besides.
Our final featured artist, Delsin head-honcho and recording artist Peel Seamus, should be no stranger to many of you… Since providing it's debut release, the 'Audience' e.p., back in '97, Peel, with his Delsin imprint has built up a quite simply awesome back-catalogue of nearly 50 releases from established heavyweights such as Detroit's Keith Tucker and Strand to lesser known, but equally as accomplished, artists such as the thoroughly compelling Ampoule crew, the mysterious $tinkworx, Future Beat Alliance and Digital Soul affiliate, Dimension5, often working with the intention of developing their signings into full-blown album artists and helping them to maximize their artistic potential. Prepare to be treated to an insight into one of the labels that have, along with a select few other labels, been responsible for the recent resurgence of a deeper, more soulful techno sound throughout Europe.
PLEASE NOTE: As stated above, this party will operate on an advance entry basis with pre-paid entry being available by phone or email from the Outlet or Digital Soul camps - There is limited capacity, no guaranteed entry on the night and THIS EVENT WILL SELL OUT, so to avoid disappointment, please get your ticket orders to us as quickly as possible!
...We sincerely hope too see ya there!
