Thursday July 22nd
Ben Sims [Theory - UK]
Alan & Paul Smith [Electric Circus - Waterford]
Admission e12 / e10 with ticket.
Tickets available from Selectah Records in Temple Bar.
Ben Sims is one of the UK's biggest techno exports and is much in demand
both as a DJ and producer. Not a regular visitor to Dublin, this will be
only Bens second time to play in the capital. He currently runs three labels
[Ingoma, Theory, Native] each one with a distinctive sound, ranging from
funk driven techno and house to melodic electronica. These labels
encapsulate perfectly the sound of Ben Sims DJ sets. Anyone who has heard
the killer 'Escapism' mix CD by Ben will know what's in store for this
Thursday - we can't wait to see Ben tear the club up this week - get there
early!
In a genre that propagates soundalikes Ben's productions have gained
widespread attention and feature regularly in the boxes of his own personal
heroes like Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills and Rolando, whilst
also attracting crossover appeal that has seen Carl Cox, Fergie, and even
the world's number 1 DJ Tiesto drop the odd Sims cut [we can forgive him
that!]. He has remixed Jeff Mills, Green Velvet, Blake Baxter, Marco Bailey,
Chris Liebing and Adam Beyer and has a forthcoming debut artist album on the
forward-thinking UK label Peacefrog.
The past six years have seen Ben constantly touring and tearing up dance
floors at legendary clubs & parties such as Liquid Room, Sonar, Limelight,
Rex, Zouk, I Love Techno and Tresor. He has also recorded three mix CD's
showcasing his natural DJ talent. This year he plans to follow up those
releases with new mixes for both Billy Nasty's 'Torture Chamber' series and
Trust the DJ. His tight, energetic and skilful brand of deck wizardry is not
to be missed.
Well, playing before Ben we have the most unlikeliest looking twins since
Arnie found Danny, Alan & Paul 'Well' Smith. This is their first appearance
at the club since they played a fine warm up set to Pete Donaldson back in
January. Expect more of the same this week when they're sure to play an
excellent selection of deep minimal techno going all the way from Robag
Wruhme to Chain Reaction and back again. The Smith Bros. have gone from
strength to strength since opening up their chain of exclusive gents
clothing outfitters and their landmark store in the Ilac Centre is a regular
shopping haunt for dandy It-Boys, minimal techno DJs and off-duty policemen.
These boyos are easily two of the best DJ's around so do try get down early
to check them out. They really are the cheese!
