Thursday October 7th
Shawn Rudiman - LIVE [Technoir Audio - Pittsburgh / USA]
Matt Chester [11th Hour Technology - UK]
Chris Rooney [Electric One]
Admission - e8
This Thursday sees another double header at Electric City with debut performances from Shawn Rudiman and Matt Chester of Technoir Audio and 11th Hour Technology respectively. Having gained worldwide recognition from the techno community in 1999 with his stunning releases for Dan Bell's 7th City label, Shawn Rudiman has rapidly built himself up to become one of the most eagerly observed figures in the scene. Writing futuristic, melodic techno and electro containing exceptional depth and funk, his ensuing reputation has been justly deserved.
Hailing from Pittsburgh, USA, he is renowned for his live sets as well as his releases - performances outstanding not only in their musical content but also the large degree of genuine improvisation that goes into them - each one a fluid jam, performed 100% live off analogue equipment, occasionally lasting up to five hours. This is techno live as you never heard it before and is simply not to be missed!
Following on from Shawn we have a DJ set from Matt Chester. Matt is the founder of 11th Hour Technology, and of the 11th Hour Recordings project. He has been writing and producing music for the past six years, but has been building his material up for exclusive release through his own label. Deeply influenced by the melodies and soul of the Jazz, Blues and Funk he grew up with, as well as the Synth-pop of the 80's and the electronic experiments of composers like Vangelis, he was totally blown away when first exposed to Detroit Techno, and has never looked back since. He began producing music in the late '90s, and set up the 11th Hour Technology project in 1999, as an attempt to bring together an increasingly polarised techno scene in the UK; and has worked for the past 4 years running the site and providing information, interviews and reviews on the scene that drives him. He is also an exceptional DJ - heavily influenced by the fast paced, fluid & funk driven style of artists such as Claude Young and Jay Denham, he plays with a cut-up, energetic groove, showcasing a unique blend of deep Detroit techno, soulful electro and futuristic European minimal house.
Kicking off the evening's proceedings will be Electric One's Chris Rooney. His deep Detroit-influenced sound will provide the perfect warm for Shawn's set.
