October 14 will see one of Germany's seminal electronic bands Alter Ego rock the Electric City dancefloor to it's foundation with a stunning live set. We have been fans of these German rockers for numerous years now & it gives up great pleasure to be able to announce their first ever show in Ireland. Alter Ego is the creation of two prolific producers, musicians and label owners. Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke started producing together in the late 80s. In 1993 they founded, three record labels in their native Frankfurt. The Ongaku, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse imprints are now well known and respected right across Europe. After a number of 12"'s and an album under the pseudonym Acid Jesus, they founded Alter Ego in 1993 and Sensorama one year later, as an outlet for their more ambient tracks.
The first Alter Ego LP appeared on Sven Väth's Harthouse label, one of Germany's most notorious labels of the time. The album was very well received in the UK & remixes came from Black Dog, Luke Slater and the George Best of Irish techno, David Holmes. Alter Ego did a full tour around this album, visiting the UK and events such as Sonar and Wire festivals for the first time. In 1999 their single 'Betty Ford' was a massive success, followed by "Slaughterhouse" a year later. In that year, artists such as DJ Rush, Wasserman and Justin Berkovi provided awesome remixes of 'Betty Ford', and Alter Ego were also co-producers for Sven Väth's albums 'Contact' and 'Fire'. Not content with banging out albums for Uncle Sven, Alter Ego have also produced remixes for artists such as The Human League, Primal Scream, Chicks on Speed, Octave One, Baby Ford and Cabaret Voltaire. Not just anyone as you can see.
In April of this year Alter Ego released their new album 'Transphormer'. An in-your-face collection of tracks that includes this years techno anthem 'Rocker'. Here's what Jorn had to say about their very own Poney EP "As regards intensity, we wanted to create a sound that could match an AC/DC record, and one that could exude just as much fun". By the time Alter Ego land at EC, Rocker is sure to be riding high in the UK charts thanks to a release on Skint records. We are expecting a large crowd to witness their spectacular live show so to avoid disappointment on the night, we advise you pick up tickets from Selectah Records in Temple Bar.
Support comes in the shape of a live set from minimal man of the moment and Alter Ego's [who?] number one fan, Donnacha Costello. DJ duties will be performed by EC residents Giles Conway & Simon Armstrong.
