Whats the specific requirments to get onto a mailing list.
My idea of getting into a mailing list i.e. free records is
1.) have a firm residencey at a club and prove it
2.) play to a regular big crowd
I play at the night called Pharmacy and its going to be going for a long time hopfully with good crowds.
Now from what i wrote above do you qualify for a place on a mailing list and if i do who do i get in touch with?
Any ideas im in the dark :)

they tend to want to know everything from the club u play to the records in your bag if your applying to join one. Alot of producers/djs get offered to be put on them when their doing well, but alot accept offers from up and coming jocks/producers.
alot of mailing lists are cutting their lists down tho these days

Tell you what, from experience.. you're miles better off searching out the records you want than having to wade through 100 discs of shit music to get 1 decent record. Don't be a blagger :-)
yeah, sorry to say but that is far far too little to qualify.
if you imagine that on a 2000 run of a record people might do 100 promos, that means they have to sort out the worlds distributors, shops, and prominent djs, and even that may not make a blind bit of difference to sales.
people sending out promos need to know that they'll get individually idinetified to either people who make descisions to buy multiple hundreds for a given territory, or will play them to hundreds if not thousands of people, and chart them on every website, forum, chart list, radio station, magazine, toilet wall, every-****ing-where to make a difference. if not, its really not worth my investment in the plastic.
playing at some night i've never heard of doesnt really stand out.
bless you for your residency, but look at it from my point of view...
who the **** are you and how will you help the record i am in charge of selling as many as possible of sell even more?
dont think i'm cussing you, at least you're asking how to go about it rather than trying to blag etc
but if you tried it from where you are now you'd be ignored as a free record blagger, and that can weaken the scene in itself
sorry if thats harsh, but its true. and is not a dis to doc12, but its a pointer for anyone else trying to aquire about free-bees.

Three Shades is wicked what a fantastic record store the staff there are all friendly as - im off to there in about 30 mins or so
Anyway would I qualify for a mailing list being that I write for 4 magazines every issue (bubble Jam delite, twenty4-seven, ttr magazine and COLIN magazine), a multitude of websites, email my chart and reviews out to 1000 people each week, review around 90% of what I am sent, always return reactions on time and play at free parties....
just wondering...

basically as Tony said, there are high criteria for getting on mailing lists, especially the top ones which im presuming u boys are talking about.
Basically you have to be a named artist. Be it a well known Dj or your putting records out, or both. They have to know that people are going to be influenced by what u play and that you have the right public profile at that time to justify sending you however many free records. You need to have a good CV of everything you've done, and i really mean the big clubs you've played, the big magazines you've written for not the smaller local nights or free ezines you've wrote for, as good as they are they arent interested in them really.
its all a bit harsh but true.... and as schlong put u get sent some real turkeys most the time, its better off getting down ur local record stores/2nd hand record shops and getting some proper records

no oofence to the boys, as i say i used to owrl with paul and we get on really really well, and the other guys are cool and i've seen the shop since it very very fist opened down by the casinos in brum and went to the opening parties in stourbridge.
but can they really serve anyone who browses the BOA board. whenever i've taken stuff in, or lists they just kind of stare back blankly. i had always taken in as a prog/hard house/trance shop, and they seem to do really well at that.
i'll hit em with some techno, but i bet i dont get much out of them
tresor????
birmingham techno????
dancefloor killers????
never heard of them mate :) :)

I think you might need to be very specific about the labels you want tunes off - smile nicely and see what happens.
I've had a few off people I know in shops but not off labels - I've also picked up too many pre-releases in second hand shops down Soho... but fundamentally, I beleave in buying tunes because it supports the artist putting out some more. I hate to see shops just sell whites to make money or to compensate for the damage punters cause when going through a load of tunes.
But as Acid Trash said 'I can't afford this shit!'...
peace

well this is a hard one also for me.. ok I don't play in the UK at all but I do play shed loads abroad yet I get about 1 promo a month, even with two residencies in germany and playing alongside some big names...the trouble is that I find its a who you know business and even a DJ I know who has only played 3 times in the last 6months gets shed loads of promos cos he is on an old list...so just keep trying..
