I'm struggling a little here. I am comfortbale with claps, snares, kicks, toms etc but can't seem to get the effect I want with rides or cymbals.

Tend to use 808s or similar analogue based samples, or I makes them in Waldorf Attack. I've tried compressing, eq'ing etc but am stabbing about in the dark, and not getting results I am happy with.

Cymbals end up being tinny, hissy and harsh when they should be crisp and lush.

Anyone got any good ideas? Or better still - links to some half decent recorded cymbal samples?

i use a basic tr909 ride sample usually, and mess around with the volume envelope to give it a smooth attack and release, maybe put a bit of distortion on it, and a lil reverb and compression. A couple of dudes gave me this tip a while ago and its preduced some nice results. works well with most any ride sample too.
