Does anyone do this ?
Applying a compressor to your fx send effect so that when you have more things sending stuff to it , it makes the reverb quieter

i've never tried using a compressor to do that, but i can accomplish something similar with my reverb unit using an envelope follower.

I actually have my EFX returns run right into open channels on my mixer and compress and eq them there which works really nice

There's a trance track (called Crazy coming out on mondo soon) which I put a reverb on the bassline that only opens on the high notes using a gate, that sounded wicked.
Don't see why you shouldn't try it, depends if you like your track getting dryer when there's more things in the mix, sometimes reverb stops complex things sounding too cluttered and lets your brain seperate the sounds a bit so you may find that it doesn't really help clean up the mix how you imagined.
But if it works then... !
