I have recently obtained a laptop. I'm mainly using it for internet and office purposes, but I'm planning to use it in my studio as well. Therefore I'm gonna buy a firewire interface.
The laptop itself has a firewire connection, but it's smaller than any of the others I've seen. Is this normal ?

Yes this is normal, most laptops use this to save space. you can buy them from most computer stores.
Ask the place you buy your audio interface from if they will chuck in the lead because you are running it on a laptop.

Yes it's a IEEE 1394 port. I've just found some cables on the net. Now it's off to the store for a M-audio 410.
