I was told today a midi controller meets more of my requirements than a midi keyboard, though can do similar jobs. Does it really matter?
Thanks anywayz guys, shall look at all the recommendations.
What do you guys think about the MAudio controllers?

Evolution Mk-425C, you cant go wrong with this for a small controller, and its cheap as hell. They also do a midi mixer controller for a cheap price aswell.

Am I better off with getting a controller with only knobs and faders rather the keyboard features, or shouldnt it matter? Or should I get best of both worlds, would 8 be enough knobs seeing as its the main purpose I am looking for, using the keyboard is something I want to do in the future though my main focus is knob controls, so I am a little confused.

I really advise getting the evolution MK-425C, you can pick them up brand new for under 90 quid. They have 8 knobs, a load of buttons, a pitch and a modulation wheel. You should really have a keyboard because its handy for getting ideas for your track. The if you need more knobs, you could get the mixer be evolution aswell ;)

Two questions:-
1 - As I need to go for a cheaper direction, I have decided to go with the MAudio Evolution MK425C which I hope is a good decision for a midi controller, I went with IQ's recommendation. Good choice?
2. I am a bit worried as I was told to make sure the one I am purchasing as it is from the US, the cables would be the same for this product, doesnt matter where I purchase it from right? I am from Australia, so getting this product from the US will not give me an compatibility problems?
Hope someone can give me an answer to these within the next 24 hrs, thanks so much guys.

the doepfer ones are supposed to be good (endless dials as well)

???
nah, not doepfer, expensive. the behringers are motorised as well and have endless encoders.
i'll also have to agree with IQ on the evolution, i've always been impressed with their keyboards. use them in my music tech classes and at home (whoops, one went missing....wonder where??? hehe) They have proved reliable, solid and fun keyboards.
i use the MK249c.
Also you really DO need at least 4 octaves to play with, those two octave jobbies dont cut the mustard.

Thanks dodgy! I now have confirmed my receipt to pick up the evolution mk425.
Now what I need to know is will the cabling be any different for compatibility reasons if I buy it from the US, or is it the same as I bought it here???
Please let me know about this guys, I need to make a decision within less than a day.

I heard the KP2 can be used as a midi controller itself, now is this true and if so is it good enough for me to do so with programs such as cubase and fruityloops OR should I still purchase myself a Novation Remote 25 or MK425?
Thanks guys.

Get a Novation Remote 25 or MK425 as well. They are different things. The kp2 will probably only allow you to control two parametres at a time and you won't be able to play it like you would with a keyboard/knob combo.
Hope that helps...
