Been here for quite some time, and every now and then I become
angered that the passion is not here.
Why are we sitting here slagging releases and not showing our appreciation for the music itself.
What ever happened to coming here and making topics about that dope new record you bought. Or that hot party you just came from?
Big names used to sit here all day and bullshit, now they come on or ask me if they've been slagged. Where is the respect. The drive, and the desire to put something into and not take away.

Well put.

I also think that some people get a kick out of stirring up a hornet's nest too. There will always be those types. The best we can do is ignore them, as responding only fuels the fire.

A good debate is one thing. Slagging is another.

Bang on.

People feel araid to post a decent record here incase it might be meant for the specialists in the err 'dark & experimental' section. Other people feel afraid to post a decent record in the 'dark & experimental' section for fear of a few gimps. Just one section for techno (in all its forms) electro etc is probably a good idea now.

my 2 cents.

And whats with all the pink ? This is meant to be a techno board.

Seriously we should proably just talk about inventive electronic music in just one forum whilst keeping a bit of a hard or whatever techno slant on things.

Well, I'm GOING to a hot party to see Surgeon tomorrow....hehe.... then I'm PLAYING at a hot party on Saturday night....a 'Leather and Lace' party-even got a sexy corset to wear for the occassion...wooowoooo! Can't wait to drop some techno bombs on Saturday

Yeah, I'm with Massplanck. **** all this segregation bullshit. This section has no chance to prosper unless it has something to help it along. The hard techno forum as it stands lacks any kind of forward thinking attitude or indeed general knowledge on techno. Bring in the Old Skool techno forum and let people learn something.

Sorry, but me peronally I want to talk about techno, its history, where its going, who really deserves respect, who's pushing it forward.

Too many people here forget what techno should be... and thats's experimental, and music for the future. To those that think banging is the be all and end all, shove it up your hole :rambo:

I'd have more belief in this forum only I know that hard club techno (as it stands at the moment) on its own can't go anywhere on its own or raise any type of decent intererst anymore. Wake up people, and ask yourself why the hell you are here?

Instead of talking about it why not hop into the production filez forum and listen to some new music. There's some genuine belters in there if you can be bothered looking for them. New producers need the support.

Rather than sit on this forum and bithc about the music not being this or that enough, find an artist you like and encourage them to do more.

If you don't like the bitching on this forum there are other ways you can contribute. I'm tired of asking genuine questions and having some know it all dickhead leaping on anything I say and tearing it to bits. Techno is so massive that it's impossible to make a statement without someone from a different end of it reading it the wrong way and over-reacting.

Debate is fun and arguements are fun but when people take it seriously and egos get hurt it all gets rather peurile. I've learned my lesson now so I'm just goin to use this forum to find better music.

It's a fair point but I find the lack of freedom to say what I want over powering and just too controlling, does encourage me to post at all. I find the lets not slag things off stance a bit silly, listen if I play a crap gig or you think one of my tracks is shit I'd rather hear about it than have it dressed up in some loved up prozac pomp.

I agree with Martin in some ways....freedom of speech is important. However there are ways of addressing things, and one of those is to give constructive criticism as opposed to stomping all over something with the statement "that was crap" :rambo:

We are all here at the end of the day because we like Techno....whatever form it comes in. We can use our love of Techno to give constructive advice ;)

i dunno. you try to point something out and once again it goes over the heads. The forum sucks lately (havent been on much and seen any slaggin) because its the same old same old forumalic shite that pops its head up. Like Sunil said what the **** is new or 'futuristic' or forward thinking anymore in here. All people seem to want to do (in here) is mix the same shite all of the time over and over and over and over. Whenever a new release comes out by a certian producer who never deviates from the line its like "oh my god i gotta have this one' 'or oh my god this great'. Wake the **** up people there is nothing forward thinking about playing the same style of music that peaked in '97. Nothing wrong with liking it but 50 billion identical posts about identical sounding tunes just drives people mad. There is NOTHING on this forum that promotes the cross-pollination of electronic music so if thats the way you want it to be then fine and tread water till you drown. Sorry ranting a bit but as a moderator Sam you sure know how to keep techno in the doldrums by not even acknowleging what a few of us said.

Hmm, yes you make a good point. Constructive criticism is good - i guess I only stick the rule above cos I dislike the majority of music posted here :D

Although if I was to follow that rule I could post the following sentance 90% of the time on this site:

'This is bad because it sounds the same as xyz from 10 years ago, go and listen to some Neil Landstrumm / Subhead / Frankie Bones / DJ Hyperactive, it's much better, I'm sure you'll agree'

Hehe, i think you can see why i don't follow this rule.

Music is just so subjective, I cant sit there and decide what is bad or good and for that to just be that. The only way is to post about good stuff and hope people are open minded enough to listen to it, and to ignore posters if they go on about music I think is bad.

i generally agree with massplanck's statement about techno not really progressing much in the last 5-7 years, but i also think there have been some great records in that time. i agree that most records people post about are cookie cutter, but recognize that some people hear other things in them. bottom line is, it's important that we recognize we are a community of sorts and therefore need to be mindful of others.

i'd propose a few simple rules of decorum:

a) be respectful of other people's tastes when they differ from yours

b) always remember that others have things to contribute, even if they haven't been into techno as long as you

c) try to help amateur (or professional) producers better themselves through constructive criticism

d) debate people, don't insult them

e) be humble. if you think you are good, let your music talk for you

f) finally, as long as it adheres to points A-D, be able to take constructive criticism or disagreement with your views

Only because you never acknowledged a few ideas people had about the forum. You asked the question, got the answer you wanted and that was that. Problem sorted. For **** sake Sam I dont jump in and personally slag records & producers. THE TOPIC OF THIS CONVERSATION IS CALLED 'QUALITY CONTROL & THIS FORUM'. I suggested that their probably should be one forum where everyone posts about techno/electro/house/dark stuff/electronica and you still dodge the question. You dont see me post about something i like because I dont know where to post about it. I'd rather post it in here but It might get moved to sector 7G where 2 people might read about it or someone might have a superiority complex about it. Answer the question. Do you think it would be good if we all posted in the one section about evilish electronic music we liked as opposed to 4? Ever wonder why people aint bothered anymore. Sorry for shooting my mouth off but the content in here seems to be getting very very narrow. Not that i would want to stop people posting about these records (I have loads of this stuff and still buy em) but it would be nice if was all one big melting pot which promoted a bit of diversity. Adverse posted a deadly link to record yesterday but whats the point having it in that section where your average joe soap doesnt feel at liberty to say whether its shit or not.

Jesus it was only an idea and still you cant answer me after loads of posts. No wonder I'm so negative if thats the way things get done around here.

Read some other forums and you'll see stuff he enjoys. I personally didn't see too much "This is a shit record" going on in here, but I guess I haven't been on BOA too much recently. I like some records mentioned here and like a natter from time to time, but there's quite simply not enough hard/club techno debate or discussion that would interest me anymore. I've tried to start threads or mention other 'club' techno and been lucky to get more than a couple of replies, **** that. Segregation is silly. I liked your post on influences Antonio because it helps people trace back why they got into this in the first place, we should always be reminded of how good the older stuff was, what it was, and how that level and standard of music can be created again in the future. Likewise different styles need to be thrown into here to open people's eyes a bit.

I didnt really want to go down the road of bitching about loopy hard techno because to be honest I'd be a hypocryte seeing as i'm surrounded by shitloads of old glen wilson, beyer & swedish stuff as I speak. My point is that no-one is doing anything to promote diversity around here which is a bit like keeping the whites in one room the blacks in another and not letting the chinese into your house at all. to quote saddam hussein in south park...we all need to relaaaaaaaaaax.

massplanck has a legitimate point about how the various branches of the techno tree need to stop self-segregating themselves. people wonder why techno is losing popularity and originality...one of the biggest reasons is overspecialization.

that said, SoS was obviously ticked off by the way massplanck initially expressed that.

this is EXACTLY why we need people to observe the simple rules of decorum i posted not much more than an hour ago in this very thread! i'm not calling anyone out, but i think everyone can benefit from keeping it cool and calm and remembering to treat each other with respect...

As I started this, I guess I'd better help out.

Look, things always get heated when you care about things. It was also me that wrote that Reeko review - thing is I do believe what I wrote to be true, if I hear another version of the same song I'll ****ing scream. Yes, I do think Reeko is talented and yes I would say what I said to his face. The connection was the same city and I believed that was the correct context, I also thought the record was a lot better, in the same way I'm glad that BMB have repeated themselves over the last 12"s, do I need to go on, you love it I didn't...

There's loads of people here that don't agree with me or what I'm doing with our label, thing is I don't mind that - wouldn't have it any other way, but I'd still share a drink with them. All this shit needs to be kept in context, you can't force anything on anyone nor can you expect people to have the same level of commitment as you.

Take it easy on each other and agree to disagree and like I said before lets have the freedom to say what we want, anything else is what's stopping people posting I believe.

Although the Reeko reference did seem a bit funny to include I still get why you did it. I think it's important that bigger names have bad reviews written about them, instead of everyone thinking the sun shines out of their arse 24/7.. it may even make them wise up.

I did'nt answer cause I agree with the no segregation idea.

Well how was I to know?

You think I am dodging a question that is not for me to answer.

You are probably right but you'd be in a better position than us to bargain for a bit of change.

I appreciate ALL forms of techno, I don't appreciate the shit that takes
3 seconds to make or when people fall into formulas. I also wont go on dissin' someones art either it's the duality I play with being a producer/mod/listener.

I didnt diss anyones art I was just pointing out that its the same old same old same old (albeit in an angry way). I havent been on in a while and nowI've just read that thread started by Dustin Zahn which is after my own heart about how everything should be thrown in together/and people should stop over specialising. And of course you get all the usuall people going 'right on' or 'word' yet no-one seems want to apply it to Blackout audio. I find that strange and that makes me want to knock out a liquid terminator (whatever that is!).

I agree with Sunil saying that people need to know history as well, and Jon no need for the skins, I retired the gloves when I almost was going to knock out a liquid terminator.

Anyway sorry SoS for sort of holding you responsible but I obviously took the whole concept of the thread up wrong.

Look, things always get heated when you care about things. It was also me that wrote that Reeko review - thing is I do believe what I wrote to be true, if I hear another version of the same song I'll **** scream.

I didn't set out to dis Reeko, nor would I on purpose but after like, what, 9 x 12"s, even I can't take that much - loved the album tho. It also wasn't about putting him in his place or anything like that, it was more that he's hinted at the dark shit and I believe he didn't come up with the goods, unlike the record I was reviewing...

...now, addressing the idea of subgenre-crossing posts...maybe there is a way to do this without upsetting the balance among the forums? i hate to propose YET ANOTHER forum, but maybe that's exactly what we need...

I'm just gonna post all my music related crap in here be it hardtechno/breaks/electronica or retarded annoying babbling. It'll save me alot of clicking around thats for sure. And maybe i'll stop acting like a dickhead (maybe) ;)

well just to have a quick say here...
i've got into a few arguements on here , and nothing is more annoying than trying to make a point to someone who just can not get their head around what it is you are actually saying!
so yeah discussions can get a bit difficult sometimes , i think that's called "real life" isn't it?
anyway overall i haven't found the forum so bad although this section could perhaps learn a little from the acid techno section which always seems to be quite jovial ...... and the odd stupid post sometimes doesn't go amiss either.
there did used to be a bit more humour in here i don't know what happened to that (did jeff mills steal it?)
and sam..... as much as i appreciate the difficult job you do here
i will only say this once , you need to lighten up a bit mate. ( sorry about that)
just one more thing
perhaps sticking to the topics will actually help a bit , i just reckon you get something out of a discussion that's focused , for instance what's all this reeko stuff in this post all about????
ok there was a point in there but..........
also i have always agreed with not segregating the forum and was partly responsible for the acid techno forum not being separated the first time round...in fact i'd like to see all the "techno" forums compiled as we could all learn from each others attitudes to life as well as our music.

also there are a whole load of old names who seem to be absent these days that's what worries me really.
if it's just gonna be the same 20 people , it's fine , but for me i'm looking for a bit more than just an msn session
know what i mean?

thats is is very good point there henry i like it and it makes a lot of sense.ive always been 1 for looking for insperation its nice to hear another mans work and if it grabs you by the balls it inspires you.

...ive met a lot of cool people on here and i respect the boa comunity very much, just sometimes as an artist at the more bottom end of the ladder like many others on here its nice to hear wot the more well known and popular artist have to say.the thing that gets me is when some well known artist start`s conducting themselves in an none gentleman manner and not acting good roll models for the younger guys pushing themselves through the ranks, they must remember there are people who respect them and look up to them. ;)

we dont want a techno scene that has to many cheifs an not enough indians. to many cheifs cause wars....politicks.......and general disruption. :eh:

unity is the key, there is enough power in this forrum for change.respect each other work together wot ever. god man ill feel like me grandad! you get the picture guys........ :notworthy:

Sure, but many a time, its all a misunderstanding. Sometimes mentors or veterans may come off pretty harsh because its for the greater good. Its nothing personal. They're not going to come out and bull***t you, they're gonna tell it to you like it is and its even more crucial when the industry is fragile. So its really for the student or the younger guys to be mature enough to not take things personally and take heed of the viewpoint or advice and move on, I feel. I never take what any veteran say personally, only contructively.

Hi Gang,
Been away a bit. Skimmed over this thread.

My abreviated 2 cents -

This website (and any forum, and all the internet) - has done alot of good for humanity. The reality is, the negavity (true negetavity, and negativity wrongfully intertretted by the listener/reader) has followed close behind any benefits of the internet.

It has brough all our good, and all our evil closer.

I for one have always enjoyed this forum. Even the parts that piss me off (anger is a great motivator for change).

I can only speak for my own experiences. But I do believe the cures to the techno world will not be found on the internet. Because a new probablem will always be fast behind.

Whatever made techno work in 1995 will ultimatly be what makes techno work in 2005. And that boils down to more action and less chatting.

Whirled Peas,
Gil

Im pretty sure the forum has gone downhill since all these sub-forums were made, i just dont understand why they need to be there, this is a public forum not a library..
Dont know about the other folk that seem to have drifted off lately but I just really cannot be bothered to check all the sections for a thread that interests me, so all that happens is i end up not posting.
Also the forum has had a serious humour bypass in the last six months. There was a time back then when the whole forum started to be about rules; the humour began to dry up as staying on topic was enforced and the interesting interaction of personalities and views was lost with all the divided subsections.

good points, all, but i think things were also getting out of hand in a few cases, and mark sort of had to put the smack down.

i wouldn't mind folding the acid techno and old school sections back into hard techno...i def miss seeing some of the acid techno people in here, even though i don't personally listen to that style, and i've begun to realize that i'm one of maybe 4 or 5 people who posts in the old school section.
