This week, Becka is off again on another mission taking her all the way to Montreal. Manning the decks this week will be 2 of Gotham Groove’s own artists Deekron and Alek Biotic along with our special international guest, coming straight from the UK, Rowland The Bastard.
As label manager of New York’s Gotham Grooves, and a dance music aficionado for 15+ years, Deekron knows a thing or two about quality dance tunes. His sets are strictly made up of “Grade A” Techno tracks that range from groovy to driving. He has delivered his Techno stylings in places such as Spain, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. Let this fast-rising connoisseur serve your ears some high-quality Techno selections.
Journeying into electronic music in 1993, Alek Biotic has DJ-ed at venues throughout New York and in the last five years produced over one hundred tracks, including releases on Bush Records, Kazumi, Gotham Grooves and the German imprint Bazooka10. His Funk Matter EP received high praise and playtime from a number of artists including Carl Cox, Bryan Zentz and Agent Orange. Alek’s Adam Jay remix followed the same trend, having appeared on Carl Cox's latest - F.A.C.T. 2 Australia - mixed CD. He likes to describe his sound as "the percussive drive of Tribal Techno and Techno-House with the experimental elements of IDM." Look out for a fresh blend of organic techno and mangled electronics from Alek under the handle MONTAZ, with Anathema appearing on the Various Villains 2 release on Gotham Grooves and an EP of non-dance covers and originals soon to follow.
Rowland the Bastard (whose name comes from his straight-to-the-jugular style of mixing, and not his attitude!) started djing back in 1993. He could be found taking control of the dance floor at many free parties in the south west of England, hosted by crews as: Lazy House, One Family and the infamous Sign On Crew. All this led Rowland to start his own club night/party called The Fun Factory. Out of these nights emerged a ****-off sound system, co-run by the legendary Pigfarmer and Rowland himself. Having releases on several labels including Smitten, Stay Up Forever, and Planet Rhythm, Rowland flies frequently back and forth from Europe, South America, United States and Canada, playing a blend of sounds, ranging from deep dark Techno to full blown banging Acid Techno.
So you would think Rowland has his work cut out for him, with all this globe-trotting and runningTwo record successful record labels, and producing tracks for all of these, as well as other labels such as Smitten, Stay Up Forever, Abstraction and Paradigm Shift. But he is still always keen to take on new challenges…..
We hope you enjoy this week’s special show with Deekron, Alek Biotic, and Rowland the Bastard…..
Tune in, sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds from Gotham City…….
