I have the FB383 freebass which tbh it a pretty weak sound.
could i get a fatter and more screamy sound if i used a distortion
pedal or something with it?

what pedals are recomended..

what about the Boss DS2 or Boss OS2 ? whats the diff?

what bout the "Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV2"
any suggestions?

think the overdrive (OS2) is more subtle than the distortion. thats what the terms usually imply anyway.......

I been playing with a "ROCKTEK, Metal worker"
Distorion pedal
Love the name, and the sound...

Controls:
Level
Low pass
High pass
Distortion

I love it over my 303, was thinking of selling till tried my old mans effects pedal.

That was my last creation,
Standard 303 for first 2 mins
Distortion pedal after.

You can hear difference for yourselves.

I have a Freebass, currently distorted like this:-

Freebass->Mixer (analogue) Trim gain maxed out, EQ max on all frequencies, this causes distortion on the mixer channel (but you have to be careful and drop down the channel sliders). This is a cheap trick I learned from my Jedi Master!

I put the output level to off on the slider, then I use the pre-send on that channel, throw it through a compressor/limiter, munge it some more then do the same distortion effect with the returning signal from the compressor (maxed trim, maxed EQ).

Try it!

I use the freebass too, and an Boss OS-2 - I think it is more sublte than the distortion, but you can get some pretty full on distortion effects. One problem it it loses a tiny bit of the bass when it's distoreted, and the pedal can't quite cope with high resonance on the freebass - you loose the volume big time.

I whack up the gain on the mixer too, and also send that out and back via a Zoom 1201 with a combination chourus (kept pretty light) and delay.

I think experimentations the key though - I mess about wityh it quite a lot with everything imaginable when I'm writing/producing stuff, but the above seems to give me a pretty good all round set of effects for playing live.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/acidsaturation/tunes/pills_live.mp3 Is an example of this in action, but it's a pretty tame one...

If you can stretch to it, the Sherman Filterbank can do the distorted sound whilst asleep.
