AMD vs PENTIUM for music production/performance on laptops?

I need suggestions for a new laptop pc for music production and performance. I'm debating to go with either a P4 -3.2GHz-800MHz FSB or an AMD Athlon 64 3700 setup. Anybody have experience with the Athlons? I've heard they're supposed to run a bit faster than the P4s and have no issues w/ hyperthreading. However there have been some compatability issues. I'm gonna be running the following software: ABELTON, reason 2.5, FL Studio 4 or 5, Acid 4 or 5, wavelab 3 or 4, Logic and some Native Instruments applications i.e absynth, FM7, guitar rig, and a whole bunch of VST and direct x plugins TC NATive, basstation&v-station, moog, etc. Hardware includes both M-audio Firewire 410 and MOTU 828 mk 1 interfaces. Taking any suggestions.

In my experiance, ive found the AMD chips to be better. Faster, more stable and cheaper. The older ones used to have a problem with exesive heat, but now this doesnt seam to be a problem anymore. The only reason to get a pentium for a laptop i can see is if you are getting a "Pentium M" to keep your battery consumption down.

Still hugely debatable so i guess its up to you what to get becuase you will hear arguments for both AMD and Intel. The one thing that AMD definataley have over Intel is the price, remember that ;)

Yeah dude go AMD.... the 64bit ones run the 32bit code faster than native 32bit procs do from the benchmarks I've seen :)

there's no 64bit chips for laptops (yet) only desktops. All software manufacturers do their testing on intel chips and some compatability issues can arise with amd chips but this issue is minor now compared to say 5 years ago.

pentium m centrino's for laptops 4 sure. They're killing everything at the moment.

also i see on that inta audio they are selling amd64 pcs as well ... as to amd vs intel i just dont know!!! i got a p4 desktop and its been spot on

I have an AMD and I love it. Im currently running an AMD Barton 2500+, when i upgrade im going AMD 64bit.

cant fault my amd 2600xp chip so far, its been solid, and like you say they are cheaper than pentiums

You can get the AMD 64 in a note-book pc now - check out the ASUS range.

My vote is for AMD too. Always used them because they are more bang-for-your-buck.

I use an AMD64 notebook...the thing i noticed most is how quick it is and how QUIET it is.
