I've decided that I want a hardware EQ, to give me the chance to do some final polishing on the mix after the desk. Has anyone played with any here? What would you guys recommend???

Sontec makes great EQs as well.
I know Rob Acid uses the hell out of em.... (hence his Sontec releases)

AMEK make some crazy stuff - pretty bloody expensive though... the "channel-in-a-box" is awesome... www.amek.com

LA Audio gear is worth checking out too...

This is Expensive. but in case you really want to know.. This is the holy grail of Eq's.. 5 grand new but a steal of only 3 grand on ebay.

All I know is Parametric is better for Techno etc, rather than mulit-band (traditional 31-band etc).

Parametric gives a more creative edge I have found and it allows for "sweeping" of freqs to find the best result.

I don't like to recommend brands as it comes down to personal taste which you must decide by listening to it as each unit will add a certain "colour" to the sound (expensive is not always suitable). There is no write or wrong here, just trial and experimentation. Sometimes I use an old crappy 10-band analoge when other times i use PC based parametric.

One thing I have learnt tho is that "Machina" is a bit of a gear nut and he would only recommend good stuff.

Have a look at these:

http://www.mojopie.com/modelasc.html

Inexpensive for outboard EQ ($475-$545) and well thought of by many - google rec.audio.pro.

Don't think there is a UK distributor, so might be a PITA to check out.

i've got a deq830. it's handy because of the 8 channels and signal analyzer, but i would never use it as a mastering eq because it sounds too cold and digital.

What is with the "Waves" plugins? Is there so much difference between some hardware from"Crane Song" and good plugins?
Did you hear a difference in technomusic?

Manley Massive Passive is wicked, spent ages playing with one once. There's a two band verstion coming out should be about the 1500 quid mark.

Hi, Mark we use a Drawmer 1961 here and it works nicely and considering your in the UK it might not be so expensive as compared to here in Japan.
