Some basic settings
Don`t read these as set in stone, but they are a good place to tweak from.
Hard Kicks
Threshhold: -21
Ratio: 1:15
Attack: 1 ms
Release: 20 ms
Knee: Hard
If you have lookahead set to around 4.5 ms
Medium Kicks
Threshhold: -15
Ratio: 1:9
Attack: 1 ms
Release: 26 ms
Knee: Hard
If you have lookahead set to around 4 ms
Slight Kick Compression
Threshhold: -12
Ratio: 1:5
Attack: 1 ms
Release: 20 ms
Knee: Medium
If you have lookahead set to around 4 ms
Thank you DB...
knowledge is power, and we like powerful things, just like kicks are powerful then it follows that knowledge about kicks = powerful kicks!

Interesting...
I've always found you need to give Kicks quite a bit of attack (e.g. at least 25ms) so that they have any impact. Otherwise they sound a little flat to my ears.
Perhaps I need better monitors.
(Or perhaps it's just my background in breaks shining through ;))

As I said these settings are not set in stone
You can back the attack off a little to allow some of the nose of the kick to come through.
cool, i rite them down, gonna hav a blast with them. i just been using presets. so cool bit of info

Threshold probably depends on how loud the actual kick sample is to start with ... you using a kick normalised to 0db?
Guess the attack depends on how attacky the kick you have in the first place is too ... ?
God I'm up early.
I might go back to bed.
This is stupid. I should be alssseeeeep.

Good man Steve thankayou!!
do you guys compress kick samples with bass in one channel compressor, or you compress both of them separatly with 2 stand-alone compressors??
Mindful

Thanks DB.
The whole compression thing seems to be coming together a little better at home now, as theory + practical part of using compression. Before, I understand the theory but having not practised it much (and when i did was like errrr ?? ) Just proves what sitting on your computer all weekend instead of going out can do.
