spectrum analyser?

Anyone know of a free spectrum analyser that shows 32+ bands? i got to rinse my room out and need to be able to see frequencies peaking.

try Voxengo SPAN (http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1023.html). it's good free realtime spectrum analyzer.

Sample white noise and then use a non-realtime one in Soundforge 7 ... probably more accurate.

It's actually even easier to spot your room modes by playing notes on a keyboard and making a note of which ones sound funny in different spots in the room then converting the notes to pitch.

I've spent ages looking into this room problem and whilst I can tell you all it's faults I really can't work out what to do about them without spending a fortune ... anyone who thinks they can fix it is welcome to come around and give it a go and i'll make as much tea and coffee as necessary ! :)

thanks. ill give the voxengo one a try.

it has to be realtime due to the technique i am using.

wash the room with pink noise. get a microphone in the same room and run it through a spectrum analyser. turn up the microphone gain, gradually as the gain rises the modes of the room start to appear.

the difficulty is getting an EQ to knock out the peaking frequencies. as you continue the higher modes start appearing.
