microphones for sampling live sounds

hey guys,


I was walking down the street today on my way to work when i heard a really really cool drilling sound. For some odd reason they are always doing bloody construction work on the streets of Hong Kong 24 hours a day and ive been hearing this really wicked sound that i would like to sample.

Can anyone suggest to me what it is exactly that i need to sample the sound? Obviously it would be a mic, and some sort of a recorder. Can anyone help me out with some basic name brands?

Ive done some live recording with a mini disk and a small high quality dynamic mic. Just have a look about for dynamic mics in your price range. A condenser would be nice, but i wouldnt recomend walking round the streets with one.
