DJing was invented by hip hop culture?
there are some that would say it came out of the rave and soundsystem culture of jamaica.

to be fair, hip-hop djing originated in the bronx in the mid 1970s with Kool DJ Herc, so hip-hop's older than many people think, but he was jamaican and influenced by the soundsystems. and if you want to talk djing in general?

try going back to 1943 and jimmy saville playing jazz in london...first 2 turntable dj was bib casey in 1955...

Were you RageSeven then Riot sound? According to Lenny's bio "His earlier music consisted of Disco, Electro-Body, High Energy and early House." by the way...

Yea... I am trying for people to contribute their opinions to get to the bottom of all this...

Its time we figure out where everything came from or else we will not know where we are going

KOOL HERC is not the END ALL of DJing but I chose him as the starting point of the dialogue....

Not too mention that the Zoot Suiters into jazz had clothing as ridiculously large as today's ravers. ;)

yeah, it's where the term rave was first used in our sense I think. On the jazz scene, flappers et al.

me and my mate (I dj techno and stuff, and plays jazz piano) are well into this. we want to do a skwot jazz night in london some time-a PROPER old skool rave. ;)

one day. we might have a job pulling in punters though!

OMG....I cannot believe you had the nerve to bring this over to not ONE but TWO other boards......:nono:

I'll refrain from using any profanity here, because I happen to have a big respect for the people on BOA.....

Please people.....do not feed this troll......there is another motivation for him doing this-and it's not to find out who invented djing-go ahead and read that thread on ism, and you will see what I mean......

Indeed, Last Night...

Jimmy saville, otley 1941 playing to american GI's on a deck setup his mate made up for him - it blew up halfway through the night and partially burnt the top of a piano cos the wires were so hot...

Jimmy - total class!

Jim'll fix it pals! no problem! pat on the head, PAT ON THE HEAD!

(Dear Jim, can you fix it for me to stop patronising the kids on your show?)

decent book on djing during the 1970s and 1980s, but the chapter on techno was CRAPPY CRAP CRAP.
