MONOLAKE
Mr Robert Henke aka Monolake ( www.monolake.de ) emanates from the very origins of Berlin's world renowned techno scene - The home of the 'holy trinity' as it were that is made up of Tresor ( www.tresorberlin.com ), Hardwax Records ( www.hardwax.com ) and the affiliated family of labels that come together under the Basic Channel banner ( www.basicchannel.com ), towards which Robert has contributed many a revered piece of techno's musical history. His career spanning well over ten years and pre-dating the global explosion of dance/rave culture, Monolake's work - A highly infectious fusion of (sometimes) dub-wise aesthetics, deep, funky experimental electronics and a somewhat left of centre approach to techno - currently sees the light of day via his self-run label, Imbalance Computer Music, whilst further building his impressive legacy by means of releases & remixes for such highly respected labels as Chain Reaction, Din, Leaf, FatCat and more. Robert is about to drop his fifth Monolake album on Imbalance and with current single, Axis Carbon, spreading like wild-fire and bastions of the left-field, The Wire & Resonance FM both running features in the coming months (***See Bottom of page), Monolake is set to be all over the world of electronic music like a rash, but for those of you still sleepin’ on his this mighty musical force, this is without a doubt your wake-up call!!!
More traditional avenues of creativity aside, Robert was also the key figure in the development of Ableton Live ( www.ableton.com ) - A piece of music software that has since revolutionised live electronic music and has since gone on to become the tool of choice throughout electronic music across the globe. Further more, since then he has also developed his own means of providing a fully-integrated visual presentation as part of his live performances... Quite simply, this will be a rare chance to witness one of the most innovative artists in modern music expressing the full scope of his rampant creativity.
SLEEPARCHIVE
April 2004... A mysterious record marked ‘sleeparchive’ containing little indication as to it’s origins finds it's way into the record boxes of some of the more discerning members of the techno fraternity, a releases that, whilst openly embracing influences from the likes of classic Plastikman and the inspirational innovations in minimalism made in Berlin around a similar time (prompting much debate as to who was actually behind the recordings with some of the scene's most revered producers being cited as likely candidates) also sported a vibrant sense of genuine spirit & enthusiasm so rarely heard on vinyl these days. October 2004... Peeps are still scouring vinyl emporiums worldwide in search of a certain special piece of wax; unbeknownst to many a second release similarly marked ‘sleeparchive’ had by this time been surfaced and DJs & vinyl junkies alike were soon hooked and it became clear that WHOEVER was behind these releases meant business... Approximately a year after the first, in March this year a third instalment, 'The Research e.p.', was released as sleeparchive continued to tread a path of stripped down dancefloor electronics - that which some may otherwise term 'micro-house', 'glitch' or whatever… The mysterious sleeparchive ( http://www.sleeparchive.gmxhome.de/ ) is most definitely here to stay and it is with great pleasure that we welcome him for his debut UK appearance as a live performer.
…Word has it that a new e.p. is also imminent, so stay sharp!
NICK WILSON
Misleadingly making his vinyl debut a mere 2 years ago with the ‘Ligeia’ e.p., Nick is a refreshingly understated credit to UK techno… Refusing to fall victim to the trappings of the usual apparent ‘desperation’ for gigs & record releases, he is one of a most valuable breed of producers making genuinely heartfelt electronic music simply because he is inspired to do so. This allows his sound to naturally evolve over time through a plethora of recordings which may or may not ever see the light of day and furthermore affords him an uncompromising and varied approach to the kind of dense, industrial-tinged techno that has breathed fresh life into many of the harder dancefloors around the world since the turn of the Millenium… Nick was originally intended to make his live debut with us at our ill-fated S.E.N.D. bash back in December ’03 – A seemingly doomed event which eventually saw Nick & fellow billed live performer, Orphan refusing to consign their respective sets to the world of what might have been, instead opting to perform for many of you lot at the defiant OC-house party that ensued on the same night! On this occasion Nick played over two hours of almost solely exclusive material to a fantastic reception, so given the right soundsystem and the right dancefloor, we could be in for a world of trouble!
Also keep ‘em peeled for forthcoming releases from Nick on Meta off-shoot, Light & Dark (‘Still’ / ‘Motion’), the next instalment in his series of releases for Continual, ‘Ghosts‘, which incidentally contains remix pressure from fellow guest for this occasion, sleeparchive, and lastly the birth of Nick’s very own imprint which will no doubt become a revered source of honest, compelling techno-derived sounds.
Thanks for your continued enthusiasm & support - Hope to see ya there…
Rave safe ya’ll!
