its a regular computer, you can run whatever you can on it

I don't know that much about Macs...
Presumably you'd need monitor / keyboard / mouse etc. - they're all standard. Can prob find some kicking around at home.
What extra hardware might you need?
e.g. Audio Interface, MIDI interface?
Just thinking about this - and with them going for £339 over here, seems a hell of a lot cheaper than a lappy.
Plus, also a good choice for a network audio player?

I'd say toss in a decent firewire audio interface and whatever else and yeah great network audio player and livepa box.

Well, there's my next purchase after some studio monitors.

the thing is that mac is SO into planned obsolescence that there will probably be some upgrade i need that mac can't do, so i will end up buying a new one in a year :oops:

I'm starting to think this is the case with CD / DVD drives.
They seem to fail every 3/4 years or so without fail.
