Hey, im after a laptop for doing all my none music related tasks,
my music comp keeps getting problems and ****s up when i go on the net, iive tryed different things to try and fix it like SP2 and firewalls but ive decided the best thing to do is just keep it off the net completely,

so im after a really cheap laptop for doing
web design
internet browsing,
photoshop
general word processing and office processes.
plus i need one firewire port. !!!

doesnt have to be an awsome machine, just enough to get by really.
ive been looking at dells

if you dont need it to be transported then i wouldnt bother with a laptop, just build a low spec desktop, youd be suprised how cheap they are now and would be more then powerful enough to do what you stated.

i just whacked an example part list together for you, cheap as chips

AMD Sempron 2500+ (SoA) (1.750ghz) CPU Retail inc Heat Sink Fan & 3 Years Warranty £39.25 £46.12

Gigabyte GA-7VM400M-RZ, VIA KM400, uATX, DDR333, 10/100 Lan, USB 2.0, Audio, IDE, VGA £27.96 £32.86

512 Mb Corsair Value Select, DDR, PC2100, non ECC, Lifetime Warranty £27.00 £31.73

Scan 3XS '2012' 4 in1 Kit. Black/Silver inc Keyb/Mouse/Speakers ATX Midi Tower 400W Passive PFC PSU £24.25 £28.49

80Gb Seagate Barracuda ATA-100 (7200rpm,2MB,9ms) - PATA £31.57 £37.09

128MB Gigabyte N40128TE-Geforce4MX4000, 275/400MHz, AGP8x, 2xPipeline, DirectX8.1, TVOut £23.00 £27.03

Net Total £173.03

Carriage £15.00

V.A.T. £32.91

TOTAL £220.94

prices will be similiar from most retailers.

220 quid including delivery, id say that works out cheaper then most laptops youl come across :)

cheers mate,
yer looking at what i paid 2 years ago for a similar tower in parts its mad how much they come down.
paid about 800 for a similar spec tower that i built with a mate, didnt keep it though.

yer ive been thinking about another tower but its space thats problem.,
with a laptop i can just close it up and shove it in a corner or sumthing , i dont have any room for another tower, never mind another monitor.
cheers anyways mate.

found a decent looking laptop deal in dixons of all places the other day.
athlon turion processor (equilvent of a 3.2 pentium), 50gig HD, 512ram.
15in screen.
case software, wireless internet etc etc
700
not sure though, somethings fishy about it, never did like dixons.
:nono:

anymore ideas guys?

surely you could make room for a small desktop case if it meant saving 500 quid

you wouldnt need another monitor, just plug it into the one youve got.

been looking at ACER models between 500-600 pounds.
it deffinatly seams like you get more bang for your buck with an ACER then you do with Dell.
in some cases you get twise as much power for the same price with ACER.
anyone got an ACER?
which processor? INTEL MOBILE TECH (like centrinos) Or AMD (like semperon)?

hahha,
too late mate, it came last monday.
i went for the dell inspiron 6000
got a good deal cause they where giving a memory upgrade, £50 off, a free printer and free delivery,
works brilliantly too, made up with it.
building a toweris too much like hardwork, been there done that, and failed, lol
cheers anyways,
