View Full Version : What are you doing for a living besides techno?

The McCormack topic let's me think.

I want to know what everybody over here think about the argument "living and earning money from the music for your living".

Myself, I think this is just a unique group of people who can really live out of their musical activities.

For myself.
i'm just graduated from my Math studying.
And after that i would eventually take an offer in the employment market...
Music will always be a passion. To play / DJ and to produce.
And the money you would earn would be just for fun,
because it would never compete with the serious money.....

So i'd like to know, and I hope eveyone can make there point,
that us techno lovers are doing more then just sitting in their studio and make music all day long..... Where you're living from? That's the question actually.....

i had been signing on & putting out literally millions of posters for other clubs in belfast & makin a few £££ from dj gigs (between £20 & £60 about 3 times a month til i pretty much quit) but it all pretty much went in to the deficit from 'perpetual' and any money i did have spare went into kit..

but now i'm doing an HND in suome media shit that lookin good for job in the BBC (if i dont **** it up) in radio...

I work for the NHS part time (23 hours) doing catering whilst doing a hons degree in creative sound and music technology. Before then I was a full time mechanical engineer

Hoping to get a job working in electronics after uni full time, or (but this is a bit ambitious) get a job synchronising sound for TV, maybe teaching music tech perhaps. Or could I could just go back into engineering. Either way it wont be much diff to the current situation doing uni and part time work only I will have more dollar and I wont be a student asshole.

It was like 10hours at work and then when i came home and wanted to do some music,,my eyes were totally bad with it, and i was out of ideas. it was too much to me,,and i couldn§t do the thing i love,., so i quit and hooked on music for almost all last year,..

now i can do whatever what brings some cash,, but i'm not singed anywhere,so some days i'm full time smokers sponsored,,by Smoking,. (even OCB are good,,too) LOL,., other day i do the music all the day,or week or month,.,who cares,..

i hope i will not end as a total zero,,at the end of the day..

it derives from rugby but is vastly different. the violence derives more from impact of 250lb dudes ramming into each other full speed than pulling people down...broken bones instead of bloody ears...

How often on average does the foot actually touch the ball in this 'football' you speak of? And why is the real football (the one where foot is kicking the ball the whole time) called... er..uh. "Soccer" in the states.

Could never figure that one out.

I

the ball touches the foot maybe 10-20 times a game. punts, extra points, and field goals. all related to rugby...probably in the 19th century people punted more often, so that's prob where the name came from...

if you come stateside we'll watch a game...though i have to warn, it's really complicated...it takes a lifetime to master all the nuances...

...the word soccer, i believe, derives from the term "association football" a long time ago...it stuck here for some reason

It`s all just veiled tribal warfare anyway.

Wait just one minute! Surely the only sport that can be referred to as football on this site is what you americans call 'soccer', ie proper football! I watched some of the last superbowl and it was the most boring sport I've ever seen and even with the game divided into quarters they went to adverts in between, every 2 minutes or something...

It barely qualifies as a sport in my book, nevermind one that can assume the name of the greatest sport in the world...

its the same way most americans view soccer, its boring, we don't think its a sport and not many people care for it here

At least you get 45 mins of uninterupted action with football, with american football it's like an infomercial, seemed to be as much adverts as 'action', way too commercial and it took them ages to score. I dread to think what it used to be like when it was more defensive... It seemed to stop everytime a tackle went in, no flow at all.

No-one can say football's not a sport, and there's loads more ways to score than any other sport, and the fact it tends not to be very high scoring means a game can be turned on its head in a few minutes, which couldn't happen in other sports where it's high scoring, it'd take too long to even the score, nevermind take the lead. I think proper footballs popularity says it all!

Woah....I go away for a few days and come back to see what other people do for a living and this winds up turning into a thread about football?

I'll be straight up honest.....just because I work there, doesnt mean I actually LOVE the sport. I mean-it's OK....but I am not a diehard fan like some of the other guys that work there and the only time I actually watch it is for the Superbowl. To me, its just another traffic job at another network.....but yea, working there has its perks....football tickets, football stuff, etc.....

Oh, and btw.....any of you american peeps on here who have direct tv can get the network, and we just added a new program a few weeks ago- 'Dolphins Cheerleaders'. So if you are interested in lots of T&A and can tune in, you should check out this show ;)

arrrrrrrghh free shit becka!!!!!!!!!! me!!!! arrrrrgghhh

I'm just interested in the chearleader.
Can you arrange me a date Becka?

a: i love football
b: i love american football
c: i'm half-swedish/half-american
d: i grew up with both
e: someone who did not grow up with either isn't likely to appreciate what makes either of these sports dynamic, unique, and interesting
