This is a thread where you can post artists whose work you miss. People who have disapeared or just plain don't do techno anymore. Hopefully through this thread some questions will be answered.

Who Do I Miss?

I miss Thomas Krome. For a couple of years he put out some absolute brain smashers. Haven't heard much from him lately. Is he under another guise????

Somebody find him for meh will ya!

CJ Bolland, I used to be well into his stuff, the Electronic Highway was lush, Analouge Theatre was ace, his DJ Kicks mix CD was quality, and all that Ravesignal stuff did it for me in a big way.

Then he went off on some sort of tangent, and I havent heard a decent tune from him in years, and he plays cheesy house and lame breaks from the reports I've heard of him over the past 5 years or so.

I had a chat with him a year or so ago, and he told me that he rarely gets booked to play Techno anymore - lots of Electro and Breaks.

Derrick May

I saw a documentary on Dertoit music about 4 years ago and he said he was working on some new stuff...... LONG BLOODY 4 YEARS :bash:

I asked him about this in Dublin a few months ago, he put it down to him not having enough funds to put out records right now... but that isn't much of an excuse, think of the amount of labels that would jump at the chance to put out new material. To be honest if he never puts out anything again then that's fair enough, he's not obliged to, however he keeps letting on as if there's more to come which frustrates people.

The contract he was tied into with R&S is no more now, so he is free to record with whoever he wants.

every couple years he has a) something "about" to come out and b) a new reason why he isn't releasing anything. this has been going on for 10-15 years.

(un)fortunately in '96 i heard some test work, all of course unreleased. it was brilliant.

Oh, and a few producers I miss...

DJ Hyperactive, Freddie Fresh (when he made more techno/electronic stuff).

Richard Turner seemed like a promising producer too, heard an electro track of his recently though which was pretty good.

Robert Armani I also wanted to hear more from until he majorly screwed over a few promoters in these parts :rambo:

X-313 was one of Alan Oldham's aliases, wasn't it ? Although Sean Deason did do some productions for Alan's Generator Records label. So was World Sonik Domination a co-production then ?

Cold Dust aka Mike Humphries and Jon Nuccles..
Have not seen anything by them in a good while.
Underated producers IMO ;)
They have done some amazing releases on red seal, communique etc...

I also miss plastikman in the acid/303/pre hairdo days.
Come back, all is forgiven

I don't think I could have said it better myself.

Pauze

Yeah, they had loads of quality releases as Cold Dust. I think it was "THC" as D.O.M. on Stay Up Forever where I heard 'em first though, one or two killers on that :rambo:

Haven't seen anything by Jon Nuccle in a while but Humphries has a new 12" on Mastertraxx which is pretty good, 4 quality bangers on there

Yeah have the DOM one too. Good record. Must keep an eye out for the masrertraxx one. cheers

wouldnt a new beltram track in the "places" style freaking rule?!?!?!?!?!? i always stuck up for joey but that one sided piece of crap he did 3 or 4 years ago on bush shut me up. big cheesey german "electro rock" arpeggios and ****ing filtered vocal samples are just not the beltram i used to know. GAMEFORM was cool in the chicago vien.........

there has to be a schranz remix of this by now surely?

I have his last release on Master Traxx, pretty sick. I have a new one on promo, think its Patterns, really nice as well. I have heard through the grapevine that Mike uses only software to produce, no outboard gear, but has godly monitors in his studio. Hard to believe that he gets such an amazing sound out of a computer.

yeah, brought him over to play the UFO in dublin years ago. a gent and thouroughly knowledgeable about music, rocked the place as well, with a nice mix of experimental and just plain mental noize

Heckmann (TPH) is still at it, check out Crunch No.1. Also he had something on AFU Limited recently. There's a Welt In Scherben album coming soon too.

Fresh would be great to see back. He has a huge amount of analog gear and synths in his studio, apparantly one of the biggest personal collections in the U.S. I think? He could still do some serious techno if he were in the mood, someone needs to get him to do a new EP, if he's up for it

Stoll has been quiet, think he has something coming on Humanoid? And he's popped up on Fresh Grind recently although that stuff wasn't too hot. He releases the odd Proper 12" but you need to be fast off the mark as he only does a limited enough run per 12" and being Stoll his stuff does still go fast from what I gather.

Bring back GAIDEN!
A single or two and one album was not enough :rambo:

TPH

Steve Stoll

Anything happening with these guys? I haven't done a web search yet, maybe I should..

Someone mentioned DJ Hyperactive and Freddie Fresh - that was good stuff

Yeah love steve stolls style. Sounds like nyc alrite. didn't know proper was still going. Yeah the gaiden stuff is stompin. Only got the ep, missed the album.

>>>where's Craig Walsh gone?

He is probably down in his local having a pint with Phil Perry, Fabio Paris, Scott Braithwaite, Colin Faver and Alex Knight. I wonder what they are talking about!?

Scott is a great DJ and really nice person as well, I liked the stuff he put out on Fragmented, a good variety of artists and techno styles
he did a great DJ tag team with Craig Walsh though the sessions after were VERY messy

Cant believe its no been said yet.

They first awakened me to the whole 'techno techno techno techno' thing.

If they were to reform  and release another record that went ' techno techno techno techno techno techno techno' i think that the ~- PHutURre-~ would look a whole lot brighter again.

We need to be marketing ourselves more to the little 14 year olds out of their heads on cider doing running on the stop dancing at shitty teenage discos

Yeah, I believe he is.
He ripped two Irish promoters off with advances on his fee a few years ago, by not showing up to either gig.
Dust Traxx were doing his bookings and blamed him entirely for the whole thing, all in all it was bad form. I'd really thought a lot of the guy before that happened. It seems like he was going through a bit of a rough patch then though.

There was a re-release of Circus Bells a few years ago on Urban Substance which had a pretty weak updated remix from him, and I also remember a dodgy almost euro trance 12" from him a while back too. Gone are the days of the classic ACV and Dance Mania style tracks unfortunately.

Still gutted I don't have that mix CD he did on Urban Substance, lost it somwhere along the way
That was a top notch selection of Chi-Town ghetto techno

Speaking of Armani, he was a bit of a mentler, did a gig with him and Felix and he had knicked some of felix's records-including some on his own labels!
