sound has disappeared on PC for no reason

check drivers, check the basic volume controls on windows the little speaker icon, ive muted this by accident a few times and spent hours trying to figure it out until ive realised, errr, check any new software you've installed hasnt knocked some settings out of joint

tried both soundcards now and still nothing. Can't even get sound with headphones plugged into either soundcard. There are no driver conflicts and nothing is muted. It's been 3 days now. I think I'm going to cry.

have you checked to make sure its not changed what its playing back, or which chip its using.

i had this once when it was insisting on using my onboard sound instead of my card, just changed it to my card and it worked fine

ctraltdelete and check your running processes - maybe something is running in the background and tying up your audio.
