This week, marks a special occasion – the long anticipated release of Gotham Grooves #9.
Gotham Grooves front man Agent Orange tours across the planet from Asia to Europe and to the Americas. He relentlessly spreads his sounds through DJ performances and by releasing on globally respected labels such as Terminal M (Germany) & Bi-polar (Belgium) and more. He has kept his own Gotham Grooves label running strong through this 9th release. It has become a solid platform for his fans to access his music, and here on GGr009 he presents 4 choice cuts that are very DJ friendly and are playable through out the changing moods of a night of music.
Japan’s Rennie Foster, front man of the Futago Traxx label, sets off A1 of the EP with a witty Sci-fi spoken word Super-Hero intro about the powers of the sun. The words slam right into a hypnotizing tribal percussive groove that creates a powerful statement as a DJ’s opening record. A clean tune with dark mini stabs and very crafty edits, its elements dance on the edge of broken beat and straight techno.
A2 Becka joins Agent Orange for a dark, yet funky, floor stomper. Becka’s dark synth stabs combined with Agent’s swinging house style percussion create an intricate groove that is held together by the glue of the super clean low end bass line. Listen as it massages subwoofers into a warm techno bliss, and catch the way it returns to the groove smoothly after the break down. The vocal chants 'my beat' throughout the back of this mesmerizing arrangement.
A3 is upbeat, pumping, funky electro-techno from the man himself Agent Orange. The main element in this track is the heavy synth bass line, reminiscent of a 70’s Giorgio Moroder style. As typical with Agent’s work, this tune is full of energy, and has big dance floor appeal. The breakdown takes you to electro bliss, which then works it way back into the beats where all the elements take off in unison.
A4 grooves into the smooth and deep, but upbeat tech-house flow of Ryski. He is also half of Deroit /San Diego’s Beretta music. Warm, gradually progressing bassline and filtering chords create a mellow mood that is reminiscent of Mr. Sliff's (aka Adam Beyer) 'The Riff'-a sound that continues to be popular in techno circles everywhere. Ryski adds another quality production under his belt.
To celebrate this special event, we present a very special exclusive set, recorded during our record release party, and our very special guest – W.J. Henze.
W. Jorg Henze is internationally recognized as a DJ, producer and record label founder. He founded the labels “Federation of Drums”, “Danza Electronica”, “Dawn” and “Delirium Red.” Frankfurt-born Henze is always at the leading edge, as demonstrated not only by his performances as a DJ, but also by his many successful productions for world renowned artists. His style of music is best described as unmistakable banging hard and minimal techno.
He can already look back on a string of releases, produced together with gleaming techno artists from the likes of Oliver Lieb, Toni Rios, Frank Lorber, John Selway, Pascal FEOS, Marco Zaffarano, Thomas Heckmann, and too many more to mention. He has also done remixes for Lsg, Robert Armani, Josh Wink, Amphetamine and labels including Primevil, Terminal M, Black Nation, Traction, Invasion, Pocket, Highland Beats, Endangered Species, Frisbee, Bound, Kneedeep, Ascend, Corachi, P.V., Delerium Red,
Speaker Attack, Deafult, Danza and his own Federation Of Drums and Supersonic Combustion labels.
Of Henze's nearly 15 aliases, his most notable alias, Gecko, delivered an outstanding energetic masterpiece of progressive techno. "Just Close Your Eyes" was a wildy successful track, attaining play from many of
the top techno jocks, as well as being licensed for nearly a dozen compilation CD's.
For 2005, Henze now brings us his latest venture: "Ash and Diamonds." Under his Gecko moniker, we have a brand new 3 track EP to launch the label in conjunction with his forthcoming "Ash and Diamonds" album.
Already signed to Zenit, this Ep is just a little taster of the many different productions styles from Jörg Henze. For all fans of pure techno music, the album will showcase 10 new pumping floorkillers based on powerful WJH rhythm constructions directed straight towards the floor.
Tune in, sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds from Gotham City…….
