Watched the Timewarp mix from the dvd last night and was pretty impressed. Not really what I like to listen to in clubs but to watch at home chillin out its ideal.

it looks amazing, i've only watched the dvd of the timearp set as i'm 'saving' the main event til i can just sit back, relax and immerse myself in it- no point rushing in, got to make the most of it-can't imagine listenting to another mix as genre-defying as this is meant to be for a good few years!

got a copy the last weekend, played it in the record store about 20 times......

The first few times after listening, I always heard "more" tracks. It's definitely mental.

good jerb.

we used to call it the "tony hawk" cut. reference 80's pics of hawk and you'll see what i mean.

every skater newb in the WORLD had that cut back in the 80's, along with those hideous vision streetwear pants...ack...

This mix is the business. Starts pretty slowly, and chilled, but builds up. Particularly liking "Do u know Dimbi?" with the Dimbiman and Slam samples. I also like the fact that Richie has provided for everyone - the mix is on cd, on dvd, with 5.1, on mp3 for your ipods etc. Nice to have it on various formats (and for less than a tenner!). I also ripped the Timewarp set, so that´s another mix as well. All good stuff!

It isn't inteded for anything else.

About time people started producing techno that isn't entirely focussed on the dancefloor.

superb stuff. love the videos as well. the whole mix sounds so full its untrue. would love to see a set like this in a club.i think there could have been a bit more visual stimulie for the 5.1 mix though.

has anyone listened to this mix on a decent 5.1 setup yet???

Jay Pace
16-11-2005, 06:07 PM
Heard it on 5.1 at Sonar on an utterly gorgeous Dynaudio setup.

You forget quite how intensely beautiful sound and rhythmn can be when its done properly.

I sat there with shivers running up my spine. Sublime stuff. Its a shame that few people will actually hear this album in its full majesty.

we set up a pretty impressive 5.1 set up on the weekend to listen to it how it was intended.

blown away.

Got this today, fcuking wow.

Hawtin is an utter genius, brilliant stuff. I wanna buy a proper surround sound system to listen in 5.1 tho now.

Top stuff, again Hawtin takes techno to a completely different level.

i've been playing this to death on my ipod (love the fact that he included an extended mp3 mix), great stuff here.

the whole package is great, the dvd, mp3, cd--rare to see such a complete and high budget product for techno. say what you want about his hair--this is a great package for the money.

ok, i guess i'll be the outsider who says it.

while i applaud the concept of this mix (each track is like a gerbajillion tunes all in one), i really am not all that blown away by it.

the idea and the execution are admittedly fantastic, but nothing about this mix really hits me in the gut. i was like "hey! neat!" and that was about the extent of it.

but as far as an emotional or visceral reaction...nothing. bored. technology and its usage only really has an effect on me insofar as it hits on a human emotional level, and this mix really fell flat with me on that level.

ok...flame away... (and keep in mind hawtin is my favorite dj, bar none...but i call it as i see it)

Jay Pace
23-11-2005, 06:32 PM
haha - flaming shmaming. Be bloody dull if everyone had to sing from the same hymn sheet.

If I had only heard this on a shitty walkman I might not have got it. But hearing it in 5.1 in all its glory is pretty special, and totally unique.
Nothing has ever been done like this before that I am aware of, and quite frankly its gorgeous.

Its just a different type of album, and a different context for techno.
DE:9 closer to the edit was my favourite album to fall asleep to for ages, which I suppose is a bit weird for techno.

In 5.1 its arresting and pretty intense. In stereo its beautifully put together, but probably won't smack you in the guts.

Yeah, I really feel like I´m missing something cos I can´t hear it in 5.1. I like it anyway, though just on my normal stereo it doesn´t sound as good as Closer to the edit. Closer... is my all time favourite techno mix cd, and probably always will be. Absolutely superb. Looking forward to hearing Transitions on my mate´s 5.1 setup at christmas. Long time to wait tho...

I finally listened to this today, and I liked it. For the first bit, I was thinking maybe Richies taken the minimal thing to far this time, but as always, he did the business, and by the end of it I was proper lovin it. I think this is probably the same reaction I had to the last one after the first listen. Anyway, I cant wait to hear it on 5.1 nice and loud, and also check out the dvd. I'll be buying it as soon as I get payed. Then I just need to get some surround sound. Anyway, I reckon I'll be enjoying this for quite some time to come. He still needs a haircut though...

My mate held up a big home made sign at Glade Festival declaring that "Side Partings Are Old News" while he was playing.

Still a bit radge though.
