SIR REAL (HOUSE OF GOD, [K]RACK-TRONI[K])
SHELLEY PARKER (HAYWIRE, ALT CTRL)
Plus Residents Roman Belkowski & Glover
Sir Real (Neil Spragg) has been involved in the music scene in Birmingham for 17 years as a drummer, producer and label-owner, and for the last eleven years, following an eye-opening visit to Holland, he has been an integral part of the Midlands club scene and is one of the three original resident DJs (alongside Surgeon & Paul Damage) from notorious Birmingham club House of God, one of the longest running techno clubs in the UK (it celebrated it’s 12th birthday in January 2005).
As an outlet for his funkier side he helps run Contact, where he is one of four resident DJs, each playing a supreme selection of electro, breaks and bass music. For the first four years of his DJing career, he was also resident with the Third Eye Soundsystem, another much-loved Brummy club. Sir Real has DJ’d and played live extensively around the UK, and has also DJ’d and performed live in clubs across Europe.
Sir Real is a prolific producer, and released several well-received EPs on the now-defunct Round Records (which he helped set up in 1997). He also has his own label Snafu Recordings, and helps run Covert Records with DJ Bigfoot.
Most recently energy has been focussed on [k]rack-troni[k], which is an outlet for a more electro/breakbeat orientated sound. He has also recorded tracks for Embryo Records, Magic Trax, and Melt Recordings and has had several tracks licensed to high profile compilations (including Dave Clarke’s hugely successful World Service electro-techno mashup and Bentley Rhythm Ace’s FSUK mix).
Shelley Parker, first began playing when she started out with the art-inspired electro night, 'Nerd'. As co-promoter and resident DJ, Shelley fused influences from her art school background with her discerning taste in electro pop, acid house and electronica.
Special guests included numerous visual artists who were invited to try their hand at the decks. They would play alongside established electronic artists such as Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner), Ladytron and Tokyo Windbag. This inspiring mix ensured diverse and innovative music, which is the core of Shelley's musical philosophy.
A year since joining the Haywire roster, Shelley has continued to explore electronic music, developing her style to a point where she can play effortlessly alongside the likes of Depeche Mode's Andy Fletcher, Miss Kittin and Blackstrobe's Ivan Smagghe.
Focusing on her current electro bass and minimal techno influences, Shelley can also play a much harder and darker set. Inspired by the underground club nights where she has played at alongside artists and DJs such as Debasser, Radioactive Man, Magda and Rephlex's Plasticman.
Shelley also regularly plays at Haywire events and many London clubs, such as Fabric, the Egg and the 333. She is a regular on the internet radio show gaialive.com, where she plays a mix of breaks, grime and techno. She has also contributed to Electric City's Power FM.
Shelley is currently taking her musical endeavours to the next level by working on a debut album. It's a project which fuses Found Sound with Techno, Electro and Bass.
