December 15th @ Electric City
Marco Passarani [Peacefrog / Pigna - Rome]
Legowelt - LIVE [Bunker / Venom 18 - The Hague]
Simon Conway [electricity - Neilstown]
Admission - e12 / e10 members
This week sees another top drawer EC double-header come to town with
two of our favourite artists making return visits to the controls. We've
got Marco Passarani, head honcho of Pigna/Nature and Producer/DJ
extraordinaire from Roma. Marco first rocked the Metropolitan on the
opening date of the smoking ban here in Ireland and for this typically
heavy-smoking Italian this was no mean feat. A flawless set of deep
Chicago grooves, twisted electro, minimal techno and Italo classics were
all served up like the finest spaghetti Bolognese that mama used to
make. Marco is one of techno's true people with production,
distribution, shop, label all springing out from his base. He has
released through the years on Peacefrog, Nature, Viewlexx, Rephlex, Get
Physical and many more. The recent 'Sullen Look' on Peacefrog was
another reminder of the deftness of touch which Marco brings to his
productions with such gems as 'CBS Master Theme' and the Erlend Oye
collaboration 'Criticize' which was a cover of the Alexander O'Neal
standard. His Pigna label has been one of the freshest breats of air to
come through in recent years with killer Detroit/electrofunk/Italo
releases from Analog Fingerprints (Marco himself), Francisco and Raiders
of the Lost Arp. Not only does Marco know his music he also knows his
football and despite coming from the Italian capital is a mad fan for
Ibrahimovic, del Piero, Nedved and the rest of the Juve boys. Check
www.finalfrontier.it for more info.
Also served up on the bill will be a return live set from the
wonderfully schizoid comedy professor, Legowelt. Legowelt has been
behind many of our favourite electro and Chicago jams from through the
years. Whether it's under his Legowelt nom-de-plume or others such as
Squadra Blanco, Macho Cat Garage, Chicago Shags, Smackulator - his
releases have a deep feel for the floor and the head. Influenced by
early Italo, disco, Chicago classics and Italian horror soundtracks,
Legowelt is one of the masters of the electro world with quality being
matched by quantity. He scored a surprise big hit with Uncle Sven when
the 'Disco Rout' track was picked up and released on Cocoon. These days
Legowelt is back in the Bunker and pushing his latest Venom 18 label on
a public always looking for more. Whereas Mister Passarani knows his
football, Mister Legowelt knows his comedy - an expert (and university
graduate no less !) in such classic UK shows as Fawlty Towers, The Rise
& Fall of Reginald Perrin, Porridge and his own personal favourite Some
Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em - he would be at home on Mastermind as he will be on
his return to the Electric City, Betty. Check www.legowelt.com for more
info.
Opening up proceedings will be EC resident and still-a-young-man (til
midnight at least), Simon Conway with some low-slung, lo-fi Chicago and
Italo tracks to get you in the mood for dancing.
