Thinking of buying some Aleses M1s

I wouldn`t get em.
Fostex have a tighter sound, and I believe are in the same price bracket.

Alesis are far too bassy - I want to get rid of mine.

Save up and get some mackies - then you'll never need to buy anything else.

chrissi and i used the alesis for 5 years and never had a problem with them. for the price you're getting what you pay for.

but then we got our mackie hr824's and jesus christ what a difference. immediately i noticed how less tired my ears got with the mackies. the bass was sweeter, the mid was less harsh - just a really beautiful speaker.

to be honest, when you're starting off i really don't think it's worth saving the extra for the best speakers - you're really not going to have enough knowledge about production to notice the difference. but then again, they always say, save up and get the best. i tend to agree on most things, but of you havent got the money, the alesis with be fine i reckon.

I'm not adverse to 824s even tho they sound a bit dry to me. My bird would have a fit if I spent 500 on speakers tho.

I bought the alesis ones because they sounded lovely and bassy. More so than all the other speakers I was demonstrated. Nice to listen to, irritating to produce with.

824s on ebay for around £500. Fair bit of wedge, but you'll not be upgrading in a hurry and its an investment in yourself and your future.

I never really liked my left kidney anyway. It let me down all to often...

Say you need them to stop you going deaf, as your current monitors are destroying your ears. And that in the long run you'll be saving as you won't need to upgrade ever again, or buy expensive hearing aids.

i¨ve got M1's MK2 and i like them a lot. agree they are quite bottom heavym but i think it s because the room acoustics,. and this can be treated after while. i cant compare to other monitors as i didnt hear others. if i will ever change to some else i will go for Adam's.for sure./

well, certainly go for the active ones. another amplifier is just one thing more to worry about.i have active mk2s and i guess they are ok, my room acoustic is ****ed up though.
you can make music on laptop speakers if you get used to them enough anyway :P

i'm using them the last 2 months now and i love them. i do find them bass heavy but thats easily sorted with a little master eq.

for the price you cant go wrong.

I'll happily use alesis as dj monitors when I can afford some mackies.

They are pretty bassy. One of the reasons I bought them initially - they sounded lovely. Didn't appreciate the fact that that it isn't necessarily what you want when producing.

ive still got my alesis, they were overly bassey when i first got them but plugged ports, isolating speaker stands and carefull room placement improved them a great deal.

as first monitors id reccomend them but like people have said there is much better availible and if youve got the little bit of extra money its worth going for something else.

ive enjoyed using them though and they now make an excellent pair of general listening speakers :)

reminds me funny story,. my friend was in Tunisia and some local guy liked his girlfriend so much that he offered him a brand new Ferrari or 20 camels for her .) still cant understand he didnt do this trade.

gene4lec 1029s are ok - clear but a bit harsh - with sub bass difficult to get balance right

I've got alesis MK2 actives at home and they are brilliant for the money - maybe a little bass heavy but you can plug a port in each speaker and jobs a guddun

have got hhb circle 5s at studio and they rock totally but are more expensive than MK2s

i'd say go for mk 2s and get used to them - play loads of familiar records thru them and you'll soon get accustomed to their bass response
