Tadox - "Pump It Up" - Cluster #77
"Tadox along side Robert Natus and Christian Binder are the new producers coming out of Germany who have taken the techno world by storm, re-introducing it to a younger Generation who want lots of energy in their music but don’t care about the commercialised Minimal scene. Tadox has already racked up many releases on such labels as Highball, Giant & Dwarf and Composure. He is a scene leader in the ever growing Schranz movement that is bridging a gap between Hardcore and club Techno.Cluster is the label founded by the Liberator Djs and has been producing quality Techno for over Ten years and has built up a very respected following thanks to an excellent catalogue featuring D.A.V.E. The Drummer and Guy McAffer plus new talents such as Sandy Warez and Martin Hare"
No samples as of yet.
First Kay D Smith and now this Tadox mush (search Juno for samples of his work and see what you think). Seems the Schranz boys are coming aboard the good ship Cluster.
A good thing or a bad thing?

i think its a good thing. cluster to me is the best of the "original" labels from suf and the natus release is quite good. i dont think its really going down the schranz route (the natus track certainly wasnt schranz) but more trying to appeal to a broader audience.. which can only be good.
you hear so much bad news about good labels going under these days that its good to see one of them trying something to progress as a business. fair play to the SUF crew for sticking their necks out with cluster.

Cluster had Sandy Warez before... Jeff Amadeus... both make hard hard hard music... last Cyborg X release was very very hard too... I'm not really into the schranz thing, but I think this is good because some Schranz heads will buy some Clusters...

i think cluster are just rolling with the times....i mean why stick to a certain routine when there is so much choice these days....the shranz/hard techno market is buzzing at the moment so it only makes sense for cluster (which is a hard label anyway) to take these artists on board. everyone always moans about the same artists and the same style of muisc on labels like cluster so i say its a great move!

john from s-u-f said to me the reason there getting all these hard artists is cos they want cluster to go back to what it used to be like.... a label so hard your afraid to play it

Some fair points made here.
But I just think the essence of what Cluster was as a label died a long time ago, and its just had to start releasing this sort of stuff to keep going.
The early Clusters were just brilliant, like all of the tracks on Cluster**** or the DDR and Paul Harding ones, which were just insanely funky experimental techno.
Seems like nowdays there isn't that much experimentation going on within the SUF collective, its all just standard dancefloor material. Don't get me wrong there's still a load of great tracks coming out, but I think with the fall of sales there's just a fear to test new formulas or push the boundaries.

Ya the scene with labels seems to be moving in that direction, i think calver said he was moving more in that direction and getafix is... seems that the uk labels are adapting to the germanized kinda style... it's progression nothing wrong with that every genre has it's place and it's moment in music...

i think cluster have always represented the harder side of the sound. it's always been one of my favourite labels but to be honest since number fifty there haven't been many releases that have grabbed me (mobile dogwash being the notable exception). i guess moving to the schranzier style sound is a natural progression for a label representing the harder end of things. not neccessarily my cup of tea but if it fits the label thats the way it goes. it's all about evolution i suppose, there's loads of european labels out there these days that cover the sound cluster used to represent, i guess they're trying to promote the vibe that cluster has always been and always will be the hardest tunage out there .... and o it should be . :bonk:

the best example i can think of is both the b-sides on mastertraxx 001
some bits and bobs on patterns, arms, audio assault, punish etc (i'm not saying every tune mind) and other little labels

The b2 on the mastertraxx records is definetly quality! But the stuff you mentioned doesn't really have that kinda sound that cluster used to. It was just the simplicity, and the way the used the 909s in such a basic way, grimey mechanical stuff. Proper quality techno!

i know what your saying i guess they fill the slots in my sets these days that cluster used to. That kind of grinding industrialness. Don't get me wrong i don't think anyone will capture that classic cluster sound but i think theres plenty of other options out there these days to compete with it's niche as it were.

quite like b1 & b2 but a-side is a mistake IMO. the sample is just tto much for the track. still would buy it for the b-sides espec b1

im not that fussed by this at all. rhythmtech is right a1 is far too much.
the b-sides are pretty average. hardly the Cluster of yesteryear.
I like Cluster cos i think it is a pretty experimental label anyway, but i've got tons of better examples of this music on German labels.

This is such a pertinent topic...having just returned to the UK from Germany after 2 years, some things are glaringly obvious and this includes what my mates in the UK say(producers, DJs, scene bods etc etc):
The uk techno RECORDS market is dying primarily because people don't buy as much anymore.
The London techno scene just degraded itself into a crack party for students.
As with every 'going concern', no one (London techno people) tought that the bottom would fall out and just sat back and actually did not play acid techno (with the exception of Chris and a few others).
Record shops just do not want to stock up on the London techno stuff and acid in particular - because there really isn't that vibe that was created through the squat parties...and I don't just mean Lee Techtonic and Insanity either
The German / European / Hard scene just happened to be quite teutonic and lucky...that they have got a lot of younger punters around, quite mobile and able to go to parties outside of the borders - we need to use some poxy Eurostar / Easyjet to get out of our little island
The fact that a lot of labels might be considering a new style is because this style indeed has some energy in it that (in my opinion) the commercial and non-commercial hard house scene just sucked away - Kinetec before the new incarnation was a culprit - I don't think Mark cared much about supporting one scene
UK Distributors are more keen to import and sell here than source talent here and distribute outside
Eventually, it comes down to one thing I suppose...just like every other style that has evolved, say in London, with the Schoom -> Rave -> Hardcore -> Club UK -> blah blah...we will always be influenced by others outside and evolve...otherwise Stay Up Forever will be releasing with Choci's Choons. Also, even classic acid labels like routemaster have gone through their own journeys...
Coming after a while to the UK / London scene, it seems like people are more interested in shoving loads of powder in small 'intimate' posey vocal house parties - middle class schtik!
Look at all our Label owner DJs...they all play outside, different 'firms' colonise certain parts of the world and sell their own records...gone are the days when we sold our style, city and country in general
See what 9 years of comfortable New Labour life has done for us all...I say bring back the tories - watch the squat parties spark up the rebellious London / UK scene that made us world famous...it ain't them mate...it's us...we are the procrastinators
Note to self: must go and book flights to all the wicked Teknival parties that will be happening Euro wide while our councils sell off Hackney Marshes etc to property developers so we can all buy houses and have house parties and play that once-famous style of music called Acid Techno to our friends and reminisce

agreed.
No problems with cluster releasing their tracks, but those artists and others from the genre have more then enough outlets for their music.
