ive honestly never seen Luke Slater and come away thinking he was any good, it really is a shame. Just always up and down, big tune mixed into big tune with some electro in, really sound guy too and production's speak for themselves really

oh shit, its all coming back to me....

Coming up on my first pill, shitting myself - then having one of the most outrageous experiences i have EVER had. suddenly the music fit into place, in one mind boggling instant i UNDERSTOOD why techno was so powerful... i feel like im coming up just thinking about it! doing poppers and dropping to my knees and banging the dancefloor with my fist in complete ecstacy..

Christ, that night changed my life in SO many ways... set me on the path i am now on and led to a life long love of techno and so many new new friends, some gone, some here..

A life changing moment!!!!!

When was that gig?!!
Holmes, Slater and Bandulu together
Suggests that it was at a time when they were all really rocking the techno.

do you go on the orbirtuary site dodgy ?

I think they've got virtually every flyer and shed loads of sets from the club, the surgeon one from 97 is a must !

Nice one...

Saw Slater in '97 and he abolutely destroyed it, one of the best sets I've seen by a guest over here, he was great. Hasn't played anywhere near as good at gigs I've seen him play since.

Holmes was playing good techno in '95 I'd say, and Bandulu live at the peak of the Infonet era?.... phew!!

yeah man, bandulu rocked the joint.

Crisis a gwan is a corker.

I'm sorry to say I agree with most of ya'll bout slater djing, however when the first "fear & loathing" was released it was a fresh of breath air,I personally thought the second was pure muck in comparison
I saw slater about 2 yr's ago now in Dublin and he was average to say the least but in saying that he didn't have a third deck......................which brings me to my next question, has anyone seen him using 3 decks and does he still use one??????

koma
19-03-2006, 03:20 PM

i'd rather have good tune selection and someone rocking the floor, than a technical genius who bores me, that is as long as he doesn't train wreck every single mix

you know what?

i really don't agree with alot of you. his mixing isnt the best, but it's also not the worst.

i actually heard him last year at a big dutch festival can't remember which and i really loved it. not the best mixing, but it worked, the tune selection was good but the dancefloor was so shackin' out. really moved me.

then i remember being at the orbit for one of his planetary assault systems pa's (hehee when i wasnt djing out every weekend )

i actually used to pr luke's stuff for gpr. and in my eyes, he is a musical genius.

7th Plain anyone??

:)

aint that the truth, but "fear and loathing" was technically outstanding, the tune selection was unrivalled....................tiz a shame he cant consistently produce sets of that quality!!

that's easily a decade ago Mark and no one's disputing his history.
last set i heard was electro-gash and funky techno fodder.

i'll dl those sets conflict posted and check him out.

gotta say... saw him on new years eve at lost. i thought he rocked. just played a really solid set, nothing flash... just good, honest, floor filling techno. i'm a man of simple tastes!

luke slater - 'all exhale' always did the business on the dancefloor. i want to hear that track right now.

i cant really speak for his dj'ing skills, i've never seen him play.

'into the night' one of the finest.

his dj sets are pretty dire now though to be honest, not heard anythin good from him in ages either.

what the fuk was that 'traktion action' all about?pure tripe, although it know doubt appeals to some people.

Yeah production wise there's no arguement he's one of the legends, and his live PA's are pretty special too.

But DJing he does seem to be a little hit & miss. I've seen him absolutely tear it up at Atomic Jam a few times but then I've also seen him have a complete shocker, knocking the needle off the record with his elbow, trainwrecks etc. He's definately a talented DJ, just gets a bit sloppy from time to time.

saw him do a 4 deck, 2 mixer set with james ruskin at the orbit in late 2001, which was totally rocking, but not seen him since. was really good to see the contrast in styles and personalities- slater jumping around like a nutter with a big grin on his face, ruskin much more thoughtful and deep in concentration, permitting himself a small smile whenever he got a particularly good crowd reaction or played a particularly sick tune.

on a related not, saw michael mayer at technique last saturday night and he was surprisingly rocking- absolutely excellent. i was shocked (but very pleased!) when he dropped an old slater track 'surface noise' (from planetary funk vol. 5), think i was the only one in there who recognised it tho :)
