Well, that is what a lot of artists are doing in order to make a quid in an industry that isnt making money selling tunes as most music is pirate. It goes undere the banner of value adding or diversification....
I would have bought a Rally jacket & gloves back in the days when I used to race....hehehe....cool.

Haha I would never use American steel wrenches. They would break in a week.
Only Finnish/German steel tools are usable.
Good idea nevertheless... But he forgot to write what diameters the wrenches are.
So what is the story? Jeff has gotten into Nascar?

Well it's not a big deal its just a bit funny that Mills a very serious and philosophical techno producer now has a wide range of merchandise. Pencil sets, wrenches, sandles and gloves etc.... There is definitley something funny their, or maybe this will all be needed when we move to mars and all this stuff will be vital when we get there?
And don't give me that bollox about him making a crust! The chap gets nearly 7 grand sterling to play in some places so he's not strapped for cash. I'm not complaining about that and fair play to him and i know he probably wants to expand the brand but all this merchandise is a little overkill IMO. Maybe if he was more concerned with the quality of his tracks and his mixes this wouldn't be problem but from what I can see his focus has changed a little that's all.
He drops stings of life, the bells and nights of the jaguar nearly every night and gets good money to do it. I would feel like I was cheeting people if i was doing that. I know thats what some people want from Mills but fuk that I'd make sure I was keeping my sets fresh as possible for that money.
Again I want to say that I'm a huge fan of Mills' but loyalty can only last so long when what you like him for is slowly dissapearing. The sets of his i've seen have been dubious and his last decent record was .................. a good while ago considering how much average music he's put out.
This is his new purpose maker release, would be interesting to see what you think of this.......... take into consideration all the other purpose makers that have been releases as well.

Why bother having an axis one if its only going to sit in the boot of your car getting dirty until the tire blows, or maybe we are meant to display them or something?
I was soooo hoping that the large axis searchlight would be like a bat sign projector type thing, projecting the axis logo into the sky to signal Mills' mothership or something.

Actually car racing has a lot more to do with car racing than you think. Its all about harmonics, balance, tuning, focus and intent. I know that music has much in common with racing, I have lived with both for a very long time...
Anyway, who cares what he does with HIS business. There are many out there who diversify their music business and lifestyle and dabble in many things. Some just choose to sell drugs to kiddies, some choose to sell slipmats to kiddies....whatever.

its usually coming from those that can't make it.
I mean, he's not like Tiesto or some proggy plonkers, non stop in the media, earning money for playing shyte etc
he's making money outside music. why would the music be the only thing he does in life? cause thats underground, thats real techno attitude? bollocks...
damn, I wonder what would people say if they knew some techno DJ's are into porn industry.
if I had a money to invest, I'd do the same, coz thats where the money lies. porn. :cheese:

special to him? or special to those who are still buying that record? those who want to hear it on a party? not that is my favourite, but the track did passed the test of time. and if he got the chance to work with an orchestra, why not? the way I see it, its one more thing due to which people might stop looking on techno as drug addicts music.
plus, dont know if you heard it, but its good.
at least every track of his sounds pretty different from the others in his catalogue. most producers today are releasing bunch of records every year, that sound the same.

no-one said anything about his music (i think). i was just wondering why a record was twice the price it normally is in the shops? And i got no answer. He can market all he wants doesnt really bother me. I just wanna know if charging double for that record is ok in your books? Maybe ive got it wrong. But if you all just want to stay schtum and gloss over it then fair enough.
I just didnt think that that was a cool thing to do. k>?
Now someone give me a rational explaination or tell me that there was a mistake with the distribution coming into dublin or something and i'll shut my ass.
I NEVER bitch about producers on here. But the above was something that annoyed me a couple of years back and DID change my perception on mills due to all the philosopical stuff he comes out with.
anyway.
if i dont get a reply then fair enough i win.

Blatant "I need money" merchanidising is just ugly.
As is branding, the scourge of the 90`s.
If he didn`t spout all this damn philosophy all the time, then it would be fine for him to just turn into a dollar suck machine.
However his philosophy mixed with blatant and crass branding, makes him a bit of a dink.
Hero and originator of shit or not.
i think what dirty_bass and some others are trying to get across is that if you are just a blatant capitalist, then no one is gonna really be surprised by overt marketing of random crap with your logo on it.
but if you present yourself as someone in it for the art and philosophy and THEN go over the top with the marketing, it stinks of hypocrisy.
but then, anyone who has a basic understanding of the english language and has read mills' wannabe philosophical record label blurbs and such, probably already knows that he was talking out his ass the whole time anyway. utter BS tripe.
me personally, i think the whole pseudo-intellectual crap was all just a subtler marketing tool, and finally he has moved past the pretense and gone right for the obvious marketing. although selling car tools and shit strikes me as a pretty lousy business move if money is what you're looking for...

and i can't believe (well, yes i can actually) that those who have made honest critiques of blatant consumerism disguised as philosophical hooha are always labelled "bitching".
for those who cannot differentiate:
bitching: "jeff mills is a lazy sod who trainwrecks, lives off the success of his previous purpose maker output and now sells stupid crap to make money."
critiquing: "i find it problematic that someone who has built their career on supposed forward-thinking musical concepts has now decided that slapping their label logo on driving gloves meshes with their previously stated views on music and art."
ahem.

screw the merchandise.. i never loved Mills for his merchandising, i loved him for his tunes.
but imo, he hasnt moved forward. its still the same vibe/sound. and regardless of what pruck hes stuck an Axis logo on, his music hasnt progressed. THATS my problem.
as for popping at Beyer.. slipmatts & t-shorts are used in clubs. i wear t-shirts & i (used to) use matts.. i never ever needed a beach towel or a wrench when i went clubbing or played out lol
as for The Bells, ive recently done my own re-edit ;)

I agree, never had a problem wearing t shirts with record labels on them, ide rather wear something that supports a label than wear the latest thing in the name of fashion. It seems like the axis name itself is being tailored around making a brand for itself more than the label itself. Like a fashion name, fair enough if that’s the route he wants to go, it’s hardly the punky techno spirit I like
Ide love to see someone get kitted up head to toe in axis clothing, its possible. I would wear the sandals, the axis sweat pants (black), axis T shirt, axis sweater, axis jacket, axis wool hat and then the axis helmet! Woa there’s an axis helmet, didn’t see that the other day. Then they could stand in the middle of the dance floor with an axis helmet on, dressed head to toe in black axis wear flashing the axis torch at people on random. Would probably look like darf vader, could even add it to the adding it to axis journal.

we could dress up and become AXIS FORCE.
Then we could enforce the law in the name of techno.
And we could have sirens on our cars that play the bells.
