is it just me, or is there a chronic lack of decent hardstlye lately? ive been djing hardstyle for years, and lately have found myself drifting away from it. Even the Zany releases of late have seemed a bit repetative and boring (and i never thought id say that!!!!) I think we need more Straight on black sounding material (more techy percussive sound)... as at the moment harstlye just seems to be following a boring, predictable pattern.. alot of hardstlye is sounding like half assed Nu Skool techno (but nowhere near as good!!!)

does any1 else agree, or am i simply just growing out of the sound?

i remember when i 1st got into djing, id ring up germantrance and they would play new releases down the phone 4 me to see if i liked them, and it was so exciting hearing cocooma, parophonatic, all the spaceflowers etc... i just dont feel like i have that excitement any more and its not good...

And thats 1 of the reasons why i love techno!!!! more originality, emotion and energy than hardstlye!!!

Mate I never got into hardstyle, but I'm a massive fan of M.I.K.E, you know Push. His productions continue to blow me away.

I'd agree yeah. For every good release these days, it seems there are 5 bad ones. Not too much originality going on IMO, but there are some good productions. Also agree about a lot of stuff sounding like weak Nu Skool Gabba, which is no use at all!

i'm a huge fan of techno mate and the percussion in hard trance and hardstyle has always been very, very impportant to me - even from the early harthouse/eye q trance days. percussion keeps things moving forward and i am convinced that once you remove this from a genre it gets boring, predictable and somewhat commercial. that is why i went down the zany route and the straight on black thing. but you're right about zany, he is very techy but recently it's like he is using the same formula - not good if you want music to keep moving forward. i dunno, i did alot of research recently into up-coming hardstyle for this album i am doing and the genre will change rapidly in the next 6 months i am sure. there will be a definate gap start todevelop between hard house-style predictable hardstyle and the stuff we're talking about. i know which side i will be on :)

Too right mate, well looking forward to it. In regards to Hardstyle, not bored of it myself yet, still a lot of good tracks being released. Just its a bit of a mission to try and avoid the poorer tracks available, you've just got to know where to look init!! :cheese: :techno:

I concurr wholeheartedly and that is my general view of hardstyle although i have only been dj-ing/buying records a year and a half so i must have missed the golden age of germantrance.com.
Mark EG's prediction sounds very exciting though, lets hope this techy gubbins really starts to gather momentum soon! Also if the gap does widen do you think it will get given a new subgenre title? I don't like to pigeon hole but isn't that what will happen? we have jumpstyle (lord knows what that is, scuse my ignorance) What shall we call this one?!

I haven't gotten insanely bored yet but I do agree with some things said, there is a lack of originality most of the time now. and it sucks to see labels that used to be hard like Suntec pushing some cheesy trance instead :( although as I said in another post there is some good hardstyle coming out from people like Prophet and Activator they are making some hard tunes. but once again I'm anxious for that change we are all waiting for :) and as Lindz said in a much politer way I hope that no crap second names get thrown out there like "jumpstyle" that crap is lame lol no offense to anyone that digs it but it is rarely hard and very very boring.

LOTS OF LOVE

P.S. bring on the new stuff baby !! woo
