ive been fiddling around with this lately, and i still cant find in the manual if there is a way to set markers/ranges for the "random" function in the matrix step sequencer.
When you press the random button, the notes can fluctuate randomly from the very top of the octaves, all the way to the bottom. Is there any way to set markers around only ONE octave so that all notes are placed within that octave?
Kind of like Cubase SX' step designer?
No. there isnt, although through experimentation i have found that placing the octave switch into the lower octaves has a greater tendency to do lower octave things.
Tip for massive perucssion.
Have two exact redrums fed my the same matrix random sequencie..
Pan the drum machines hard left and hard right.
Alter the pitches of each redrum drum sound away from each other... sounds massive, also allows better routing!!!
fun with panning and pitch - its a beast!

I do this lots Dodgy(alltho not in Reason)
It also has a cool effect if you move the timing of one of the channels a little so its playing the panned and pitched percs in the same pattern but with sligtly diff timing, great for stereo width.
Infact this is a beast tecnique for getting nice stereo ambience to on pads and atmosphere(helps things sit in the mix better too)
See! great minds drink alike!
Mines a pint cheers steve...
