View Full Version : Hardware compressor
Right lads, I'm after a hardware compressor cause I'm fedup using plug-ins. I'll need stereo I/O and side chain input. Any suggestions ? I'm on a budget of around 1000 euro's.
Cheers

100% agree with you, the compounder is the best
piece of hardware i've ever bought

i swear by empirical labs distressors - a little more expensive, but unbelievably good, and very very flexible. should be able to get em for 1200 euro or so...

well i love my dbx 1066... never was a huge fan of focusrite in the shop but then again, it really does all change when you get it home into your own space ;)
the dbx is nice and cheap and sounds lovely on the whole mix.

the dbx's are great for the money, prob the best in that price range. what i love about the compunder is that the harder you push it the better it sounds. around +20-30 db it sounds so sweet
I think I'll go for the dbx, I can get two and stay within my budget, hihi. Not sure yet tough. Also looked into the impirical labs compressors but they are a bit on the expensive side for me. I also quite fancy the compounder, but simply don't like the looks of it :-) Thanks for the help.
I'll let you guys know when I get one.

cant go wrong with the Drawmer DL series... they just 'work' they do have side chain BTW

oh yeah... depending on what sound you are after a 'FMR RNC' could be good... its pretty transparent though (very smooth in 'super nice' mode) so if you want a 'vibey' sound then look elsewhere... though TBH for the money you may as well have one anyway! :)

ah rite, the one i used didn't have a side chain on it. tbh i'm not sure which drawmer it was, it was up at my uni's studio, had to use a focusrite red instead as that had a side chain

yeah i think its the MX ones dont.. but the DL series do...
I've also checked out the drawmer and indeed de dl-series do have a side-chain. Still not shure tough: dbx vs drawmer

drawmer anyday over dbx, much better compressor, the dbx is good but the drawmer is amazing
Seconded.. we use drawmer in the studio.

What type are you using ?
DL241 quad compressors and the DL quad gate series.
Love em... so transparent.
I'll have some time to think about it, but I reckon it's gonna be drawmer
