This Thursday, we welcome the first Irish DJ set from one of the
most promising French producers on the dance scene Agoria AKA Sebastien
Devaud. Influenced by sound of Detroit, Agoria has a unique groove, melody
and a dancefloor appeal to his DJ'ing. Having quickly gained a reputation as
being one of techno's finest DJ's by playing across Europe alongside such
renowned artists as Surgeon, Jeff Mills (who he supported on his French Tour
in 2002) DJ Hell, Kevin Saunderson, DJ Rush, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin.
Recently Agoria recorded a mix using 3 decks for BBC Radio 1 - Essential
Mix, this set featured tracks from Basic Channel, Lil Louis, Technasia,
Vitalic and others.
Once established as a DJ, Agoria decided to start making his own Techno
sound. Having released EP's for a number of French independent labels such
as UMF, Tekmics, Zebra and A-Traction, Agoria then signed to major French
label PIAS. It was on this label where he released his critically acclaimed
EP 'La 11ème marche'. This techno anthem was quickly play-listed by Dave
Clarke, Sven Vath, Luke Slater, Andrew Weatherall and Laurent Garnier (who
still regularly drops 'La 11ème marche' in his sets). The follow up EP 'Sky
is clear/Kofea' was released shortly after and kept the quality at an equal
standard.
Sebastien also produces downbeat material under the name Circle Room and can
cite Sylvie Marks, Massive Attack and Tricky as big fans. The track 'Spinach
Girl' was described by Tricky as being "the best hip hop track in years!".
His set at Electric City is part of a UK tour to promote his stunning debut
album 'Blossom' on PIAS which was released last month. Support on the night comes
from Novadance's Stephen Wynne Jones (who played a great set at the club
last July) and Electric City resident Simon Conway.
