Coming on like a seventh sense, it's time for Electric Shock Volume #5 to jolt in to life with a long overdue debut Irish appearance from Poker Flat man, Steve Bug. Steve is one of the most in-demand DJs and producers around right now and it's take a long time of high-level negotiation to get him over here. His Poker Flat label, set up in 1998, is still one of the freshest imprints around and has been leading the way with a stellar release history from people such as Hawtin, Trentemoeller, John Tejada, Detroit Grand Pubahs and many more. Steve is no fly-by-night Minimal chancer though, his releases stretch back to '93 on the classic Superstition label and subsequently on Minus, Ovum, Kompakt and a series of gems on Poker Flat itself. His DJ sets are the stuff of legend and many a European club-goer and festival attendee has come back to these shores raving about the man. The new Steve Bug Single, "The Smackman EP" came out on Poker Flat in early 2006, followed by the second edition of "Bugnology" in late spring 2006. Apart from his work for Poker Flat and Audiomatique, he still has his hands on Dessous as well and compiled one CD of the double-CD "Skin Is In" compilation in summer 2006. His Bugnology Mix CDs have been rocking our M50-cruising souped-up Nissan Micras for the past couple of years too and now we can go raving about him (and to him) here in Dublin with an exclusive appearance at Electric Shock #5.
Fresh from rocking the four walls of Wax along with Magda back in August, we have a live performance from Minimise honcho, Donnacha Costello. Donnacha has been delivering knockout live show performances across Europe and beyond over the past 24 months and he will set the fires burning this night. His track 'The Plan' featured on the Poker Flat #5 compilation and that's the link to make this night a special Poker Flat Records party. First up on the bill is Electric City resident, Eddie Brennan who is a regular at many nights across the city and last rocked the shock with Green Velvet & Eduction back in August. Eddie also owns several Poker Flat records which justifies his appearance on this Poker Flat Records party bill.
Extra special eye-catching visuals on the night will be provided by Mercury Boy. MercuryBoy is an Irish Video Collective comprising some of Ireland's finest video artists. They produce videos, shorts, visuals and commercials. MercuryBoy also work as a viral production team for ToyTown Films. MercuryBoy's VJs are 3pin, CAL-TV & Yeager.
3pin creates, produces and performs music & video, seeking a synergy between music, visuals and space. He discovered VJing in 2004 while developing software, which could read and respond to his own music.
VJ sets for the Dublin clubbing outfit 52funk precluded various Irish performances with the Alphabetset Collective. He has since performed at the Electric Picnic, the DEAF festival and all over Europe, Vjing for the likes of DJ Bone, Juan Atkins, Reinhardt Voigt & The Orb. Presently, he produces visuals, shorts and video-virals under MercuryBoy and produces live visuals for a number of Irish acts.
Electric Shock #4 sold out in advance and tickets for this night are already flying out the door - make sure to pick one up to save your queue-time. Available from Selectah Records on Crow St. or online from www.tickets.ie.
