This Thursday we are very excited to welcome a dance music pioneer to Electric City for his first set in Dublin since back in the Voodoo Ray, A Guy Called Gerald. Since the late 80’s, Manchester native, AGCG [real name Gerald Simpson] has proven to be among the most innovative modern music figures. His influence is international, and through his early experimentation with techno and acid house to his groundbreaking contributions to drum & bass, Simpson’s art and craft has perpetually evolved. His set at EC is part of his current album tour appropriately titled Proto Acid - The Berlin Sessions. Which is an infectious 71-minute set recorded live that drenches Detroit-styled techno with sparkling electro, the album's 24 raw club-oriented tracks are all new and meticulously mixed in one long fluid move. The album is a result of experimentation over the last twelve months at private club sessions where he has literally taken his studio to the people. No gimmicks, no dj software, just pure raw undiluted music created for the dancefloor. “It’s the culmination of a dream I’ve had since I started making music, and that’s to take the studio into the club; this album is snapshot of those possibilities.” and you can watch the great man in action as he performs this live in your EC living room. Support comes from A DJ Called Simon, who will be laying down some motor city sounds for the opening 90 minutes.
