just been listening to the Fergus set from the 4th b.day party and the Gollum set at Uprising.....
Now, i know i have said this before but........ HOW the hell does MC Natz and other "certain Yorkshire" MC's get gigs??? Why dont they ever shut up? Why cant u understand a word they say? (sorry except for "bom bom, da day, shuggiewuddiewump-a-day)
U cant hear any of the tunes for the inane dribble! Give me Sharkey, Ribbz, E-Z, Odyysee, anyone else any day. Storm even... well maybe not
Someone please explain how they get away with it? Natz has been on the go for years, has no one ever told him to SHUT UP for 5 minutes or just even talk some sense?
sheesh! rant over for now........
phantomdj

odyssey? u kidding? has he changed his style then? that twat used to scream and scream and never stop talking. i had happy tapes and trance one with him destroying them far worse than natz ever did.
must be honest. natz is 50/50... some vibealite sets he is clear and doesnt say much. i noticed he speaks a lot more at the gypsy events of uprising/diz/pleasuredome than others....i guess he does what pleases the crowd?
i remember a set with j d walker who said 'some mcs think ravers are stupid, but i'm going to speak clearly and make sense' (or something to that effect) ...
c j glover is prob the noisiest mess of all time. u heard the noya set with him b2b with storm? he ruins an awesome selection of tuneage with his shite. in fact ill upload the set just so you can sit there in disbelief.
i think sharkey ruined the gollum set tbh. he was too wrecked and his voice was cracking and shit. he was messed up on clarkee - energy '98 but it sounded good.
ribbz and squidgy rock, although i think ribbz should have said more on the hardcore techno sets than he did.

forgot about MC Squidgy "Hyper Hyper thats the way we like ya" B, another top notch mc. But imo no one tops Ribbz, minimalistic, the way an mc should be.
Have to be honest, really like Sharkey on the Gollum tape, its the only Gollum set i can bare to listen to. There must be some german Gollum sets on the go somewhere without MC's. For someone of his Hard Trance standing there are very few recordings about that i have seen....shame.
While i am on my soap box, who all listened to the Gary D sets that were posted? Was it just me or was it they the worst mixed sets u have ever heard??

From a Vortex Interview......
16.Is there anything else you want to say? Any shouts? - yeah & I know this will make me enemies in some areas but - what the f**k is all the mc babbleshit nonsense about. Mcs are there 1stly & foremostly to announce the dj, wind the crowd up where necessary & generally enhance the music not constantly chat shit over every break in a tune. Some people especially most of those queueing to get their 30 seconds of fame in the yorkshire area please f**king stop it. It's annoying irritating & completely unnecessary.
Its NOT ABOUT YOU you funkin monkeys its ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.

In my opinion i recon the best northern mc had to be jd walker even then he ripped off all the old school hip hop mc's. im mean the real ones not the shit that flies about now.
The mc used to get the crowds going i must admit ,but look at it like this... back then no one even give a **** if the tune was mixed... now adays the dj's get ripped to pieces if they crack out of beat etc... mcs moved the crowd about they were like a conductor in a band, eg-- whistle crew, horns crew, and all that shite
Take for instance m zone. heard some quality stuff by him also heard some utter shite... same with mc's
Times change thats the low down in my opinion.

Aye Mr Asylum. I couldn't agree with you more. I've got nowt (pardon the pun!!) against MC's from Yorkshire or anywhere else in particular, but it used to do my nut in, mind one time a fews years back got a 4 tape back from Slamin' Vinyl, with M-Zone, Mark EG, Scorpio and I think Producer. Got back home, stuck the M-Zone tape on first and it had some f**k-wit of an MC who sounded like that Ashley c*nt off Coronation St. with a stupid squeaky voice.
I just took it straight back to the shop. He f**kin' ruined the whole thing!!!!:rufinger: :colere:

im not a fan of the yorkshire mcs on tapes but to give them credit due the atmosphere they generate when you here them live is pretty impressive. The couple of uprisings I went to a few years ago really got the crowd going including myself.
To be honest squidgy B is by far the best imo. Squidgy B has a knack of hyping the crowd without actually saying much. Ribbz and sharkey are not as good as they used to be. Prolly as sharkeys not getting as battered as he used too! Saying that ive pissed myself with some of his one liners in the past.

Hate MC's!! Shouldnt have them at all imo! Just does your box in when your enjoying the tunes but you gotta listen to a load of bollocks over-powering the music! Can make do with minimal MCs but most of them shout anyway. If i could choose i wouldnt have them

I must admit I have never been to fond of MC'S but I have always like Ribbz, NRG but can also put up with Squidgy B and Frosty and there are one or 2 tapes when Natz and Frosty have been ok but as a rule those northen lot ruin sets.
There are a few MC,S in Hereford that drown out the music with the crap they shout out.

NRG is amazin on that Mark EG Slammin Vinyl vs Hardcore Heaven Rematch. Odyssey is pretty good too, just has me pissing myself with laughter, some of the shit he comes out with. Ribbz, Sharkey, Ezy, Squidgy B, Double Zero, Jester, Frosty are all mint Mcs
But the worst MC ive heard is on Dreamscape 33, Mark EG set.
Dont even know his name, but he totally ruins the tape with his annoying voice and horrid attempts at vocal scratching. That,, luckily is the only tape ive heard him on as he probably got kicked off stage and told never to speak again

Sharkey was the best MC of all time. Some of his rhymes, the one-liners, the fact that he'd never be on the flyer, or the tape box, you'd stick on the Mark EG tape and BOOM! theere he is.......... the original nutter.
That Gollum set from North is wicked, had that tape for years, reckon Sharkey was at his best at North, he loved the more underground stuff.
Theres a few of his lyrics on my sig, but prob my fave one, the one ill never forget is...
That tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddleser peter piper dropped the pills to pop his brain,
He double dropped in stupid time and now he's just insane,
wonder why i tell this rhyme the reason is a nigh,
that tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddleser peter piper popped the pills to get him high
Thats just awesome, tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlesin awesome, how he could rhyme the way he did with the states he got into is beyond me. tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlesin loved the way he rhymed about drugs, showed that first and foremost, before anyhting else, he was a raver. He knew the score.
Sharkey = Leg-end!
Oh aye yeah......... there was rumours for years that he was gay, that true???
Dont change nowt in my book, wish there were more like him, then again... there can be only 1.

tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlesin hell....it was true!!! :D
The full rumour was that sharkey, hixxy and odyssey were all 'best mates'.
How the tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddles can anyone like that, with htose lyrics, and everything that came with him be gay. S'pose its as mad as he is anyway.
Back to the MC lark..... ive read quite a few posts about MC Hurricane (Mark & Mick, sv vs hh, nov 98) and i really dont hink he's that bad - yeah he's a bit repetitive and monotone, but ive heard far worse than him.
The hardcore arena's at skelter had some real bad mc's... used to hate Man Parris and MC Massive, absolute shite they were. The worst one I have ever had the dis-pleasure of puttin up with was MC motivator. God he was awful, kept on calling himself dj/mc motivator, at one point he burst into song, full on, lung bustin singin, jesus h christ he was bad.
Ive never really heard Natz unitl I downloaded some of the pleasure dome stuff on here, ffs he's bad n'all.
If your gonna do a list of the best mc's then its gotta include..
Sharkey
Ribbz
Squidgy
Easy
Frosty (local young lad)
Robbie Dee (original detonator)
Cyanide (birkenhead/ liverpool legend)
Odyssey
Marley (only with Ramos or supreme tho)
I didnt just listen to hard trance, there were some other good hardcore mc's out there. Magika & Stixman, Charlie b, storm (in the early years) was alrite, used to love listenin to the dnb mc's aswell. Lyrically they were probably the best, MC MC, Stevie Hyper, Fearless, fats were all quality, but the man was GQ. Remember seein him at skelter, he shut the music down and spoke for about 5 minutes, had 5,000 people hangin on his every word, absolutely tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlesin amazin he was.
One day soon I will get myself a tape deck and hook it up to me computer.... you will all love MC Cyanide. he's tiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlestiddly nob twiddlesin amazin, proper old skool stuff.
When the drome in birkenhead was open the last one of the nite would go on for about half an hour, he had a rap for everything, used to go crazy on the mic, gettin all sorts of reverb and echo effects on it.
This was way back when.... I remember doin doves on fridays and saturdays and still bein off me tits on monday mornin!!!! seriously guys, im not jokin either.
Those were the days my friend.

And some other little shit who seems to get a few bookings with Radical Technology this last year in the south west/ South wales area!!
In all seriousness.. Those who know me know that i am that aformentioned little shit.. but I see an mc as nothing more than an extension to the music..there is no need to chat shit foe hours. they way I look at it is I want to hear the tunes the dj is playing so if i'm chatting sit then I dont get to listen to the dj properly. Theres a place for all that bidybo shite and thats Happy Hardcore. Techno Trance Gabba keep it minimal

The proof is that they very rarely get bookings outside the Yorkshire area. I just dont get the hype, i was at Uprising in Sheffield last month, and it totally ruined my night! Hardly anyone cared about the music getting played, its was all about who was mc'ing?!?!
I see videos on Youtube that are titled Natz & Marcus with M-Zone?!?! I mean come on, the mc is only there to hype the crowd every now and again, but these guys take the piss. At Uprising the sound system was set up with the sole purpose of the mc's.
I didnt think anything could ruin an M-Zone old skool set, but having Natz & Marcus b2b alongside him did it for me and i left after 10mins. And how ANYONE can understand what those 2 guys say is beyond me!!!
Anyhoo, rant over. And yeah Space is good, he mc'd for me at the warehouse. Like him.

now i find that funny .... but as iv got older i learned to "selectivly" listen to sets and turn off those annoying tw@ts coz at the end of the day as long as people like them they will get bookings the same applies to the DJs that cant mix there "wang-cars" aswell ... also i feel for the last 15 years the scene has been "lockdown" not much room for new talent ... maybe thats why is not as big as the 90s when u had plenty of big promoters doin raves ?? You either appreciate or hate MC'ing - its the Marmite effect!
They need five main components:
A Great Voice
Decent Lyrics
A Sense of Rhythm
Ability to Hype the Crowd
Be Entertaining
Not sure why everyone is give Natz such a hard time, I like his style - what a great guy, think he's 55 now, got 6 grandkids and still going to raves and giving 110%, he's been there from the start and is owed much respect. He's a genuine guy with a real passion for what he does and isnt up his own arse like a lot of MC's.
The Uprising MC's are a rare breed - JD Walker, Marcus, Domer, ELL and Natz all really compliment the music. I loved going to the Adelphi as you got awesome DJ's and awesome MC's, but its gotta be your cuppa, otherwise dont bother. Topgrooves set at Uprising from 18-01-97 is one of my all time favs, think I know all the MC'ing off by heart (although you sound like a twat singing along at home!)
The "DJ/MC Motivator" Im not so keen on, kinda ruined Fergus Pleasuredome 5th Birthday set for me :( and its bloody awesome!
Ribbz - NO MORE SHOUT OUTS! - DANCE IF YOU'RE HAVIN A GOOD TIME! When you've been MC'ing since before Jesus was born, guess its hard to come up with new lyrics! ;O) His minimalist approach has always made him the music lovers favorite. Plus he loves to see people getting into the tunes - I love him on the M-Zone Classics Finale Hardcore Weekender 2 as he tries to get a load of knackered old ravers dancing with minimalist moves - check it out if you've not heard it!
Sharkey - well what can I say, other than there are very few MC's I'd search out sets to listen to, irrespective of who the DJ is! I think we used to listen to Steam and Tomorrows World tapes solely in the hope that Sharkey would lose the plot completed and start talking complete bollocks! Legendary!
Charlie B - (Didn't he once smack Sharkey?)the lesser-spotted Charlie B used to wander about a fair bit at the Dome with a can of Red Stripe and a fag on, but I do like him as an MC, heard him do some D&B sets too and he was pretty good. Always good when teamed up with Storm in the old days!
Storm - hats off to him, think he'll have made the most money out of the industry by now! His early attempts at voice scratchin were pretty awful though and he can be a bit screetchy, but he gets everyone worked up so fair play, he's put some serious hours in over the years.
Easy & Squidgy B, both part of the staple diet for techno lovers, nuff said.
Robbie Dee - a legend in his own time.
Marley - Ramos' sidekick, but a good solid hardcore MC, Ramos and Marley were alway reliable for a cracking set.
Some of the worst MC's I've heard were at Diehard, shocking! Can't believe they actually put their resident MC's on the flyers! Sounded like they were retarded!
Finally I can't believe no-ones commented on good 'ol Livelee.... (he's certainly unique bless him!) Can't say he doesnt hype the crowd which is what MC's are for! Met him in Nov at the Pleasuredome, really nice guy, meant to be hanging up his mic now so he can promote an agency he's started??
Anyway, I can't see MC's disappearing, but I wonder if promoters will put on, non-Mc'd nights?? Might be a niche??

havent heard of them two for ages!!! used to dig frosty...quality on m-zone roadblock tour.
mattpone as for mc natz, he definitely does not have any of the 5 points that u mentioned to be a good mc....fair do's he might have been going since the early 90s and for that he does deserve respect but it doesnt mean hes any good on the mic. What he says is just mindless dribble, ripping lyrics off rap tunes, cant see how that hypes a crowd...same goes for all them uprising, dizstruxshon mc's.
i read on the ush forums that people around that area used to go into this record shop and ask for tapes that had natz on.....didnt care less about the dj or the music. Whay kind of sh*t is that?
