Wla Garcia (Ekhoport, In_Tension, Portugal)
As a young child Wlas father heavily influenced him by listening to Blues, Jazz & Disco, increasing his natural love for music. When, during the late 80s his older brother, Xl Garcia, started djing professionally in clubs around Portugal, Wla was so excited by what he saw that he then decided to buy his own decks along with a friend and taught himself the art of mixing. He started organising small events in schools and youth clubs until he found himself playing in front of crowds in venues all around Portugal, creating a following and a style that eventually made him become popular to the Portuguese dance crowd.
When Techno became popular in Portugal, Wla had his own club night at a venue called Saturday where he invited international artists such as Trevor Rockcliffe, Mike Dearborn and Gayle San and the like and sometimes these parties went on for 24 hours... Because of his commitment and love of dance music, an agency in Portugal (X-Club) recognised his talent and decided to introduce him to their own parties up and down the country, this led to Wla performing at events where there would sometimes be up to 10,000 people side by side with DJs such as Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Josh Wink, Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin, Umek, Adam Beyer, to name but a few.
By the late 90s Wla decided to build his own personal studio... his first release was on a Portuguese compilation for Squeeze Records titled Squeeze 2000 from there, he decided to start his label along with is brother, XL, called Brotech. The first EP on Brotech was released in 2000. The EP included a remix by Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent and the sales were phenomenal. This success led Wla to record more tracks and was further recognised for his unique style by international artists worldwide and ultimately his track Work in Progress on Bush Records was charted by Carl Cox for five weeks on his website. Following the launch of Brotech and the ensuing success, Wla decided to start his own label, In_Tension Records (2001). Wla had now created his own style of Techno and labels such as Bush Records and Kombination Research took great notice and invited him to send in his work.
Wla has just started a new project EKHO PORT along with Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent where each of the two produces one side, promising to be one of the best up coming techno labels, releasing the best techno you can hear. Wla Garcia is not only an artist who has played alongside some of the greatest Djs in this world but is also an artist who, while enjoying himself, also produces some of the finest Techno coming out of Portugal...a fine upcoming star to keep an eye on..
