Step Sequencer VSTI a la Reason Drummachine

OK so I need something like Reason's drum machine where I can load samples onto channels and then sequence them with a built in step sequencer.

I use to do this with a sampler and the built in step sequencer in Cubase but I am not happy with how it works so I am now looking for a new tool.

Any tips appreciated!

Guru is good... not exactly the same as the Redrum, but it loops along nicely with all the same features, and more. the step sequencer is a list of samples that just be dragged n dropped.

Tatapoum 4 is a combined drum sampler and pattern sequencer. It can be used in three ways:
1) the Tatapoum Drum Sampler,
2) the Tatapoum Pattern Sequencer,
3) the Tatapoum Sampler and Sequencer together.

The Tatapoum Drum Sampler features 10 drums, each with:
solo, mute, load and preview controls,
pan, sample playback length, normal/reverse playback direction, full/fade playback envelope,
playback levels for high and low velocity, pitch control
velocity to pitch bend (warp) feature, with pitch bend, rate and velocity sensitivity controls
velocity to tone (filter) feature, with tone and velocity sensitivity controls,
velocity to sample start feature, with start positions for high and low velocity,
2 pairs of drums (2,3 and 7,8) with the 'link' feature,
in ( ) mode, the drums in the pair are independent,
in [ALT] mode, triggering either drum plays the 2 drums alternately,
in [RND] mode, triggering either drum plays one of the 2 drums at random,
2 pairs of drums (4,5 and 9,10) with the 'exclusive' feature, triggering one drum stops the other


The Tatapoum Pattern Sequencer features:
16 pads, add/remove triggers, set velocity, add/remove FX,
5 flexible effects (2 flam rolls + 2 feedback rolls + 1 reverse),
4 banks of 8 patterns = 32 patterns in all,
saveable and loadable pattern sets
shuffle,
pulse divide,
up to 16 steps in each pattern, and pattern chaining, for longer sequences
forward or reverse pattern play direction.

thanks for the kind words! guru must be pretty sweet as well as i have heard many a time on k-v-r. i reckon they must have got sued or sth. something that roland is known for as well.

i haven't tried the tatapoum one and had to have a dig in the net to find this version.

i would have suggested microtonic, actually, because it has a built in stepsequencer but it is a little limited (the stepsequencer) and he asked for a sampler more than a drumsynth. microtonic is sth. i'd deffo suggest nevertheless :)

Got Microtonic but I want to be able to put my own sounds.
Preset sounds = gay ;)

understandable. but you can make just about any type of your OWN percussion in the tonic. that's what the knobs are there for :)

I believe it's buggier than the new version, but it does have the Reason-style GUI :)
The truth is that they're both not easy on the CPU, personally i would stick with a sampler + piano roll.

Tried both Tatapoums yesterday, and in cubae sx it has big problems with sync and also I cannot bounce the patterns. anyone has similar problems_?

How about fruity mate? Its a little different but you can either use it as a vst or rewire it into cubase.

Dude you gotta check out Sonic Charge uTonic too! I belive the guy who designed the Redrum and the Malstrom made this baby. I'm in the same boat...coming out of Reason but loved the Redrum.

Tatapoum looked great but was buggy for me but I heard Guru is as good as it gets but I don't have the hd space for a bit to install.

uTonic is awesome though, I love it
