"I've been working on this for a while, and since the VST version is a long way off I added Rewire support to the current standalone. It's made for drawing complex turntable scratches, with modes for editing both record and fader movement. Scratches can be saved/loaded, and also re-scaled and pasted into new scratches. What this means, is that you can draw a scratch of any shape you like, then put it into another scratch mapped across 1 beat, 2 beats, 2.785 beats, or however you want. I tried to explain it better in the manual. You can get the current beta version and manual here:

http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~afaulsti/skrasms/scratcher/scratcher.html

I'm fixing bugs and adding more detail to the manual every few days lately, so another update should be out pretty soon.

Feedback is welcome!"

Nice one loopdon!
Maybe we should make another sticky of non-VST freebies :)

I think if your gonna use scratching in production you should do it yourself manually or not at all.
Sounds useful what your talking about but personally if i was to use scratchin in a track or a mix id do it myself instead of a plugin.
Just my opinion though mate

Ok, so here are some more free Max/MSP standalones, this one is amazing but a little CPU demanding:

I Am The Mighty Jungulator produce their music and visuals with their own proprietory software. The audio is processed by the I Am The Mighty Jungulator application, the visuals by its sister program Derek and Norma olden. A hybrid of both these pieces of software has been developed in association with Futurelab, forming the core of an audio visual performance system for schools. The software has been demonstrated and exhibited at BETTS, Cybersonica, The Royal Festival hall and the Rotterdam film festival.

Heres the latest and best version of our looping/sequencing/soundmorphing performance software . . .

Moduloop™ is a standalone sound mangling/manipulation tool made using MAX/MSP, specifically geared towards users of drum loops – there is, however, no limitation as to what grooves you decide to moduloop! You can import any wav or aiff file, although the program works best on predefined loops of audio, as it syncs the BPM of the loops to the modulation matrix..

You can use pre-looped samples from sample CDs, or set up sound loops processed in your favourite software package (Peak, Wavelab, Soundforge etc). The loops can be as long or short as you wish. Once truncated, you can then import your processed loops into programs such as recycle to do further sonic damage - or re-import them into Moduloop for more carnage! Moduloop can record 'live' for on-the-fly processing of sound files. Alternatively it can be used as part of a live set-up using a laptop.

This application is not a commercial product - you can download and use Moduloop for free. The downloadable zipped folder (see below) includes a readme.txt file on how to install and use. As I have mentioned, Moduloop was designed and built using MAX/MSP - you don't need MAX/MSP for the program to work as it has the max/msp engine built in for standalone use.

OUTI is a live audio loops player. It allows you to record and loop audio, to use VST plug-ins, has a tempo-sync cut-up function. OUTI is a freeware, so help yourself, try it and send me your commentaries. You'll find a manual with the .sit archive to help you with the soft.

And now for non-maxmsp stuff:

http://www.ixi-software.net/content/scrshots/slicer.gif

ixi software is an experimental project concerned with building prototypes for musical instruments. We are interested in the computer as a workshop for building non-conventional tools for musicians, i.e. not trying to imitate or copy the tools that we know from the real world of instruments and studio technology. We currently work with open source software and try to build interesting graphical front-ends to software such as Pure Data or Supercollider, but our aim is also to distribute our applications such that everybody can use them, making them simple and intuitive to use.

Some great stuff there, checkout:

Slicer - create rhythms and textures from any sound you like.

SpinDrum - a rhythm machine that can be used in such a general way that it is has nothing to do with rhythm anymore.

Noiser - The user just puts some soundfiles into the "snds" folder of the application and the software will import the files and start to create music according to some popular glitch/microsound algorithms.

Some modular stuff:

http://www.sensomusic.com/images/screenshots/visu.jpg

Usine is a universal audio software especially designed for live or studio utilisation. Usine is made by musicians and audio engineers to respond to their specific problems in a lot of domains like live sampling, effect processing or sound design. Usine is a real musical instrument, flexible and powerful if you like to transform, resample the sound on stage (not only push the play button of your sequencer!), improvise and create unusual effect.

Usine Free is fully functional but limited to 1 stereo input, 1 stereo output and 4 tracks.

Analog Box is a low level, circuit based, modular software synthesizer. You put sound objects on the screen, connect them together, listen and adjust. When you find something you like, you can record it to a wav file, or just save the circuit and play it again later.

Last one for now, this one is very useful for creating instant drones:

http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/paulstretch/paulstretch_html_me3a486c.png

Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch

This is a program for stretching the audio. It is suitable only for extreme sound stretching of the audio (like 50x) and for applying special effects by "spectral smoothing" the sounds. It can transform any sound/music to a texture. The program is Open-Source and it's released under the version 2 of the General Public License. You can download the source code for Linux or the Windows binaries.

Please note that this is suitable only for extreme time stretching (e.g. if have a melody of 3 minutes and you want to listen it in 3 hours). If you want "less extreme" time stretching, you can use a program which contains the SoundTouch library.

Features

*It produces high quality extreme sound stretching. While most sound stretching software sounds bad when trying to stretch the sounds a lot, this one is optimized for extreme sound stretching. So, the stretch amount is unlimited.
*You can play the stretched sound in real-time (including the possibility to "freeze" the sound) or you can render the whole sound or a part of it to audio files
*It has many post-processing effects, like: filters, pitch/frequency shifters
*Support for WAV, OGG VORBIS files and MP3 files
*It is a Free Software
