Most of you people on this board are so close minded it´s scary.. I mean what do you really want for techno? Best thing would be that no one exept for you would hear it at all am I right? You don´t have to go insane just because a techno dj is playing a set on radio 1, or a recent trend says that techno should be a bit houseyer than a year ago. Grow up and accept that there is good music in all genres and just because someone gets played on national radio or earns a little green don´t make them a sellout.

MARKEG

i agree to an extent... some people are definitely a little too anti-commercial on this board for my liking too, but i do understand why they are like that and fair play if they want to have that attitude. god, even i'm guilty of it sometimes...

but at the end of the day, commercialism does kill a certain amount of quality in music. it takes away that innocence that enables fresh ideas and sounds. it's hard to find underground music these days, so naturally people are protective of it.

but that doesn't stop me wanting to play techno to as many people as i can. yet it would to others...

who's right? no-one knows... it's all a matter of opinion...

i agree and then i don't.

i agree with your statement that alot of people should grow up and open up a little. the definition of sellout in techno these days is a load of shit and very unfair. people need to make money and national airplay is great way to get you recognition for your label or tracks and bookings for the skills and hard work you put in the studio.

That said, some people are just trying to tap something cause something else was falling apart.. that's something that doesn't belong in any scene. there's a difference between self promotion to pay the bills and live a little and exploitation of others. the latter is what i take to be offensive.

the last thing i'll say is i enjoy a lot of differnet kinds of music. i've talked to a lot of people who enjoy these different kinds of music over the years and i have to say that people who listen to underground techno are the biggest isolationists of any genre. Even i was pulled into that attitude, elitism and segregation is bitter pill. i have learned to absolve myself of it.

lunatrick

The isolationist thing isn't good....

The best quote I've ever heard about Dance Music ( in it's modern form)
came from Chuck Dee from PE :-

'It's all disco to me.....'

and it is.....f*ck it man I like techno , I like house, I like D&B (OK bias because my missus spins it...), but seriously folks there's good and bad in all genres and why?....because it reflects life itself.....so big up the good, and laugh / ignore the bad...

Perhaps techno is slowly dividing itself into more seperate subgenres? Who knows. Who cares...just play what you like, and don't pay attention to the rest, works for me.

Im not a house man myself, it just doesnt have what it takes to move me. I find it too basic, doesnt really challenge my mind.
The bpm also comes into play as well, i need something a little bit more up beat and pumping to get the blood flowing in me body.

Cheers

See we were finally getting somewhere and then comes that not so bright post from Skarabex. Anyway, I agree with Zahn. But I´m not simply talking about techno, also music that doesn´t have to "move you". Personally i like house a lot gives a great atmosphere to a party.
My bag when it comes to techno would have to be stuff more in the direction of meta and surface, maybe not the best at parties but hey. After 5 years or so of buying techno vinyl you tend to get extremely picky about the sound you´re into, that´s why its important to remember that others are into other things and you can never bash them for it. Bottom line, good music is always good music.

i wonder if there is any money to be made in T-shirts that say "I killed the techno scene"....

but back on topic, no, i don't think house is a problem for techno. people listen to music at different levels on different occassions for different reasons. "intellectual" music (which some but not all techno is) is never going to appeal to a really wide audience, because only a small number of people are actually listening carefully enough to appreciate. nothing wrong with that either. just different strokes for different folks.

Man, sometimes, real good deep, lush, chicago house and similar, is just so damn sexy on the dancefloor.
Lovely pure, wide, phat bass and shuffley percussion that just makes you shake your ass. And the girls get down to it too.

bring it on. i am the cheesemesiter! but if i wanna get down to something in a club, for me my #1 choice is techno :notworthy: probably followed by d&b

house rox!! from derrick carter to brett johnsen and anything ive heard on the classic label plus many more. how anyone can be close-minded enough to disregard an entire genre is beyond me, espec something as influential and as relevant to their own music, like house is to techno. seems ppl get like this sometimes when theyre unsure of their own music and feel the need to ridicule other styles just to make themselves feel better about what they play, hell, i used to to do it.....but i was 15!!

this attitude bores me rigid, and actually effects techno alot more than most of you think..

to much of any one thing gets boring after a while
house music can be really wicked
even what they play on the radio , pete tongs been playing some corkers recently , in fact he's been consistently good for a while now.
i've always bought bits of house when i'm out record shopping and although i never get to play it out i love to listen at home.
played at the mission in leeds a while back and the room next door was cheesy house , and boy it was having it!
the girls were grinding the boys looked like they'd died and gone to heaven
and the music was commercial but it really had that "thump" to it.
it's something to do with the tempo being slower that gets that house "chug".

how the hell you can justify a quote like
" house music f... off" i just don't know

you must realize that by saying that you are saying exactly what other people say about techno , only they say that it's really hard and distorted and dark , completely missing the point of detroit and all kinds of other types of techno.

god save electronic music from itself and it's fans

Stupid attitude to have, some stuff regarded as techno is possibly the worst music in the world sometimes same with some house, it can be truly offensive but still you cant beat some quality sexy chicago house, or some mind bending acid etc, love house, love techno, love electro, love breaks, love hip hop, love some indie, love ambient, love music, end of.

Techno rocks more than anything for me but the snobbery surrounding the genre can really grate me sometimes, I agree with peoples opinions and passion for the music but the general closed mindedness to completely dismiss other forms of music is ridiculous.

Everyone has their tastes, me included.

I like house as long as its good its that simple.
To say that something that helped to spawn techno is killing it is daft.
I pesonely dont think anything is killing techno, there are things that harm it but i think these things just make those involved up there game and it becomes stonger.

house and techno are like brother and sister IMO. house being the older responsible brother and techno being the naughty minx of a sister! they both cross from the same original paths really. i love them both! nothing can beat the raw primal energy of a good techno night tho. but in terms of the "fashion house", for example the funky mullets, blokes wearing blazers n jeans etc handbag house....it wont last too long, like most fashions, the empty shells that follow it will get bored and move onto something else and it will die.

real house & techno will never die!

for anyone who are true house and techno fans then u have to go to sankey soaps on feb 25th!

chicken lips (as the northerners would say.....propa house- filthy shit!)

chris fink (if anyone wants the techno to be pounding!)

hope to see all you techno fans there!

I mostly like the deep jazzy house stuff that has live instruments and the harder tribal.
There’s a lot of soul and groove dance floor style in good house.

Don't get me wrong I am a techno lover 1st there’s no way you can match the intensity of a good pure techno set/night to dance to.

I know this is a techno forum but I wanted to put up this house track for those who haven’t heard this one and are interested because I feel it's a prime example of good solid intelligent jazzy house I really like the live sax and keyboard being played throughout.
