NYE sees a meeting of two of Manchester's finest underground clubnights for a heavy party to see out 2007 with. Sequence will be operating on a rave tip for the night - taking over the Thirsty Scholar with headlining sets from old school legend Altern 8, a full live hardware workout from techno legend Neil Landstrumm and Dj sets from Skam/Gescom operatives Rob Hall and Mike Williamson. Locked will be returning to their original home at The Attic, this time showcasing the harder-edged sounds of Tresor legend Pacou, the UK live debut of Jeff Mills' new signing to Axis, Elektrabel, along with a live set from Growth mainman Lief Ryan. Hope you can join us for this special combined party and bring in the coming of 2008 in true style.
Tickets will be strictly limited to the capacity of the venue - no having to deal with the usual nasty NYE queues to get to the bar.

yo. just to let you all know that our NYE tickets are selling rapidly... ticketline has very nearly sold out, and has only 20 or so left so if you're travelling in from outside the city get them in as soon as you can.
you can buy them at the following link: http://www.ticketline.co.uk/order/step1.php?id=13221114
for those in manchester, eastern bloc and piccadilly records still have a few but we think they will go very soon, might be a few left on the day... if anyone has any problems getting hold of any give me a call on 0787 9843224 and we'll sort something out.
if you're still undecided we'll be doing some on the door on the night but we don't expect these to last very long.
hope to see some of you down there anyhow... should be a top night and a million miles away from the usual NYE disappointments.

Wicked line up lads, congrats. As you said, much better than the usual NYE flops =)

Got the set times for the Locked room printed out here right next to me
See you all there tonight...
great night with a good variety of different styles
excellent OLDSKOOL set by the Altern8 man (was it Chris or Mark, not sure...)
Landstrumm did his bleep breaks techno thing, similar to his last album
the locked floor had some very straightforward techno stuff
I guess there was something for everyone :-)
Thanks to all involved for a quality night.

I thought it was a weird night to be honest. I arrived during Miss Say Say's set, which was banging. Sam Horam did a fine job too, getting everyone moving and in a good mood. The night was going really, really well.... then Elektrabel came on. He absolutely killed it, and not in the good sense! He had no idea how to control an audience. He would work it up, start really banging it out and getting people into the vibe, then suddenly stop for a very long, wobbly bassline breakdown which just left people standing around, waiting for the beats to come back in. Finally we got a beat again, we all looked at each other , smiling, got dancing again (here we go!) and 30 sconds later he dropped it out again for some more wobbly b-line noodling. It was terrible...
I had brought a large group of mates up from Lpool (about ten of us in total) as after having been to the Regis and Sims Locked nights, I thought they would well enjoy it. We ended up just hanging around, even sitting at the sides with a pint, waiting for this guy to finish and get off the stage so the party could continue. I nearly cried when I heard he was playing another hour!
I know it's not your fault if someone cancels (Pacou? Leif Ryan??) and you need to find someone to fill in, but you should have put Sam back on or something. Really! By the time Elektrabel had played over two hours (which felt like days) we were all just p*ssed off and not in the mood any more. We left about 3:30am and went to a house party instead.
I was just so disappointed because the start of the night, with the residents playing, was absolutely spot on; really, really good! Exactly what I had hoped for. And then this guy came on a ruined it. Yeah, people were dancing, but having paid £20 and drunk a fair amount etc, people would dance to anything.
We chatted with a few people here and there (mainly on the sidelines, looking equally unhappy) and asked what they thought, and the general opinion was that Elektrabel was playing badly, and ruining the night. People just weren't into what he was doing, but he soldiered on with it, instead of changing things a bit and trying to please the crowd. It felt like he was playing for himself, not for us. We weren't responding to what he was doing, but he didn't change it.
I'll definitely be back to Locked, as the two nights I had been to previously were absolutely great, and I'd recommend it to anyone (and I have done!) but I was really let down by that one artist.
A wicked, wicked night up til then, and I know for sure that locked has amazing potential. Just make sure not to book Elektrabel again ;-)

i presumed elektrabel would be on early, as from what ive heard he isnt one to stomp it out.so maybe he was slotted in the wrong time by the looks of it.

i don't think it's Elektrabel that rich is on about actually, it was Leif Ryan that came on after Sam wasn't it?

It was supposed to be Leif Ryan, but I checked the photos on Discogs, and that guy who killed it off was Elektrabel for sure.
F*ck knows what happened to Leif Ryan, or Pacou...
Maybe they played later. I was on the motorway by then mate.

That's him for sure. I still see that face every time I close my eyes, and it sends a shiver down my spine. The PA that wouldn't die!!!!

I think your being a bit harsh here, I had a wicked night, as did the 10 or so people I was with. I was a bit worse for wear but from what I can remember the music was great all night, not sure what time elektrobell was on, but I know the last 2 peeps were pacou and ad, who were both bangin, was 5 o'clock before I could blink!!!

Firstly thanks to everyone who made it down for NYE. We all had a good night and thought it went really well.
In response to Teknorich - Jay played straight after me, then Lief Ryan, then Elektrabel, then Pacou, then Ad played at the end. The set times were the same that we posted around the club.
I didn't get much of a chance to catch the other sets on the night (running around sorting things out as usual!) but we were hoping that we'd have a decent variation in the music - it's a shame that we didn't quite hit the spot for you but hope it hasn't put you off coming to Locked in the future.
When's the next Locked and who's playing at it?
the guy after Jay changed the sound most significantly I think, that might have put some people off - should they have switched the times maybe?
I didn't hear all of Elektrabel' set because I was preparing my own stuff under headphones when he played but I guess he plays mostly straightforward stuff like on his releases on "mission", he played from 2-3.
At the end was all going back to basement techno sound (I think thats what the locked party is mostly known for) - some people got blisters on their feet from dancing too hard :-))
+the party in the other room was f**kin' good as well (in my opinion), I didn't want to miss the acts in the 2 rooms...at least I'll see Landstrumm later the month.

Don't worry mate, I'll be back for sure. The Regis and Sims nights were absolutely on top, and I was gutted to miss the Seigling night. NYE just didn't pan out right, but so what? Every club has it's off days. Looking forward to another trip to Manchester in the near future!

(So it WAS Leif Ryan after Jay? That's what I had thought but nobody seemed sure. It was him who killed the night off. The residents had done a superb job of getting people hyped and in the mood, and then the first live set was just totally misjudged, and ruined the vibe. I hadn't heard of Ryan before, and I won't be looking out for him again!)
