Hi

Have had to sell all my studio, and now need to build a new one.

Need new monitors, mini mixer & midi controller.

Thinking adam a7s (fairly cheap & well respected) then maybe a bitstream 3x and then I have no clue about mini mixers - other than the fact that I hate tapco (current mini mixer) and behringer are generally rubbish.

Anyone got suggestions on these three tings I'd be grateful.

Got a total budget of up to £1300

Cheers

jp

for a decent low budget mixer try the yamaha mg series

or if you have a bit more cash to splash - mackie onyx firewire

I just got a yamaha MG16. Nice mixer. A bit big to lug around to gigs though. If you want something for compact try the soundcraft. But i dont like mixers without faders. Catch 22. A mate of mine has the mackie onyx. Its an absolute ****ing beauty but would blow a massive hole in your budget.

Based on prices at Turnkey:

Mackie Onyx 1220 - £479
Adam A7s - £538
Bitstream 3x - £229
Total £1246

Should be able to get that down a fair bit if I shop around.

Your shits gonna sound tight with the onyx. Analog mixer with a firewire interface. Heaven!

onyx is a analogue mixer, but you can buy a firewire card for it that does 18 in 2 out for your computer.

You can both mixer and card for about $750 over in the US, so thats where I'll buy it from. Disco!

i have the onyx.. didnt get the firewire option but i really do love it. much betterr than my old 1604. mind you, one thing i REALLY hate about it is the fact the 6 aux knobs for each channel are under the eq. meaning if you want to tweak with your head in the right position in relation to the speakers, you need to make your own desk that will enable you to pull the mixer forward a bit - pretty impossible in my tiny little studio. it means i end up doing alot more eq'ing in the computer - not that that's a bad thing of course, it's just i do love tweaking the desk ;)
