Personally i dont think any football player is worth silly money like that

Spanish reports claim Real Madrid have decided to offer Manchester United a world-record £100million for Cristiano Ronaldo.

It is believed Real told United last summer they would pay up to 120million euros for the Portuguese star.

The Red Devils made it quite clear they had no plans to sell Ronaldo - but the wonderful form of player, which has seen him score nearly 40 goals this season, will prompt a new bid.

Real have made little secret of their desire to lure Ronaldo to the Spanish capital and now La Sexta is claiming that an incredible £100million bid is imminent.

La Sexta - who have the rights to La Liga television coverage in Spain, are said to have close ties with high-ranking Real officials, from where the news on the possible bid have emanated.

However, it is also being reported that despite the huge bid, Real are not expecting United to accept the deal.

The current world record for a footballer is already held by Real, after they £46million to Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

Recent speculation intensified after it was reported in Spain that Real's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic met with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes in London and Rome in recent weeks.

it's all just flannel from Real to continue to try and unsettle Ronaldo.
who knows? he might go there, he might not.... but at the end of the day, we've been hearing this for a couple of years now, this is a non-news story.

They'd be better off taking it I think, spread the wealth, otherwise if he's injured or suspended, that's "£100m worth" of talent out of commission. They only paid £12.8m for him, they might sign a new Ronaldo for that and have another £87m to spend. It's a team game after all...

Manchester United are set to make Cristiano Ronaldo the highest paid player in the Premiership - on a cool £150,000-a-week. The Sun says Ronaldo is set to sign a new £40million deal with United. The Portuguese winger, 23, will put pen to paper on the five-year deal before Euro 2008. Ronaldo's current contract had four years to run but United want to stave off Real Madrid. A United source said: "This will be the biggest contract in the club's history. Given Ronaldo's achievements over the past two years, it's easy to understand why. "There is no doubt he is the best player in the world and we want to make sure he is happy at United. There is only one place for him and that is Old Trafford." Ronaldo's new deal will dwarf that of team-mate Wayne Rooney on £112,000 a week. He leapfrogs the Chelsea quartet of Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko - both on £130,000 a week - and Frank Lampard and John Terry, who are on £120,000 a week.
