The first goal against Italy, where van Nistelroy was supposedly played on by an injured player who was off the pitch - how can he be considered active? Maybe it should have stood by the current laws of the game, but by common sense it shouldn't have stood.

They were only able to play their counter attacking football because they scored first - what if the other team scores first? They could do to Holland what Holland did to France and Italy and then people would be saying what - they're shit all of a sudden because they had a few goals put past them?

It's not like their defenders are the best, if they were stretched because they were chasing a goal they could very easily get torn apart themselves.

Yeah, Germany look like reaching the final at least now, they have a great record in the knock out stages, I wouldn't be surprised if they won the tournament. it's possible, but keep in mind russia looked awful against spain whereas we looked competent, if long in the tooth, in our match against spain. no doubt the side russia put on the pitch was dominant over ours. but if we'd met them earlier in the tournament, when arshavin was injured and wilhelmsson was not and when we played with some sense of purpose, i don't think the result would have been the same.

Overall Croatia played better football, but Turkey scored the prettier goal great strike it was. Quite dramatic, Euro at it's best. Fatih Terim proved something out there tonight.

i came away from this match thinking two things:

1. russia may not be the best side left, but they are the scariest. they're faster and in better condition than anyone else, and attack with a balls-to-the-wall ferocity. on the other hand, a couple of their starters won't play the next one, so they're in some trouble if they play spain again, but they're in it as much as anyone...

2. the dutch back four were terrible. van bronckhorst, in particular, was awful.

Russia play the best football right now. Italy and Germany aren't even capable of playing like this, with this kind of attacking ferocity as slav mentioned. The ref last night was leaning heavily towards the dutch, even wanted to give Kolodin a second yellow but opted against it after consultation with the assistant and then he didn't give a clear penalty, but even after all that Arshavin pulled through and passed to torbinsky, who was a sub but still wont play in the semis cuz of two yellows, he ten scored (futsal like play). Russia were simply superb. Had the dutch on the backfoot for 120mins. It could and should have been more than 3. I have to agree with Will for a change as russia done the things the italians and french didnt do, and thats attack.

Holland simply could not cope and i was amazed at the speed the russians go forward at.

They may not win it, but watching them last nite was def the highlight of the tournament so far

- Turkeys biggest advantage is their coach Fatih Terim (1993-1996 Turkey, 1996-2000 Galatasaray, 2000-2001 Fiorentina, 2001-2002 AC Milan, 2002 - 2004 Galatasaray, 2005 - present - Turkey). This is his second term with the Turkish national squad and the players believe in him and play their hearts out for him, his experience in these kind of matches is only second to his counterparts in the other semis at this tournament. Joachim Low is a good coach but lacks national duty experience and might find this match more difficult that people think.
It will be a totally different match then Germany had against Portugal. The turks will be happy to let sie germans have the initiative and will be looking to hit them on the counter, which might prove to be an entertaining prospect. I say germany leads at the half, Turkey wins it at the end. But most of all I hope that It is a good football match and that there are alot of goals, the more goals, the better chance for Turkey I think, cause they play their best when wounded.

Russia against Spain

- In the group match both teams gave us a great game with the spanish being better in front of goal, Villa scoring 3. He will need to do to same if they are to progress to the final. In that game the Russians hit the post at 1-0 for spain, and had a great opportunity at 3-1 for spain to make it 3-2, all that without Arshavin. Both teams play attacking football and if they stick to their guns in the semis, we might be treated to a corker of a game (da prsti fudbalica). Spain proved last night that they can attack with great quality for 120 min and that's what they need to do if they don't want their net peppered with shots from everywhere. Gus Hiddink vs Luis Aragones, I give the edge to Hiddink only cause of the results he has achieved, but Luis has had his heart in the game alot longer and has more experience both as a player and a coach, tough one to call. I think it will be 3-2 but I don't know for whom. Hope there will be alot of goals, and I am secretly rooting for the Russians. Whoever wins it, I think it will be deserved.

And as for both semis, I hope the game of fotty is the winner at the end.

thought the spanish gameplan was excellent. russians were shredding the dutch and swedish back four by counterattacking and getting back before the defenders could get in position. the spanish held the ball so much the russians had few opportunities, and every time the russians got the ball, 4 spanish defenders were already back and in position. they had a couple opportunities to score, but maybe 1/4 as many as they had against the dutch.

I took Spain at the start of the tournmant at 13/2 as i thought they would be in with a shout...For me Spain have been 1 of the best teams to watch and i havent' been dissapointed with the football they have have put on display..

If you look at the Spanish team it's packed with talent and it looks like a good few years to come with the present team...

Surely Fabregas has to get to get a start tonight but i'd say that anyway, surely he's proved he's worthy of a first 11 but that's the competition of the Spanish team...

Totally agreed!But i´ll have to defend Italy,there were times when they faked a whole lot more than at the Euro..
Same goes for Ballack[whom i can´t stand btw],#1 faker and also #1 foul player when he played in the Bundesliga,he changed since he plays in England..To his own fortune i might add,guess this kind of behaviour is absolutely disliked in England..
