No mate, you just made a genuinely 'twatty' comment.
Ever heard of remixes/bootlegs?
The fact is, Cubik was a big, big tune back in the day and i can fully appreciate sampling the main riff and dropping it into a techno set, if only for the buzz and excitement it would solicit on the dancefloor amongst the punters old enough to remember it the first time round.
But hey, if you dont get it...:)

the point I was trying to make is that you're just a spastic who should shut up because you're opinions are infantile, uneducated and misinformed.

it's what it says on the label that's important as opposed to what comes out of the speakers.

@ lag
first off.. your talking about a label that has sold huge amounts on the techno scene and has been played by everyone from the smallest dj to the biggest crowd puller, aswell as a producer that has released some very important totally original tracks (red seal stuff etc). whatever your tastes dont try to belittle something someone else has done cause nobody is sitting around slagging your stuff of.
if you want to go down the elitist route on this, can you say that every single sound you've ever made has been synthesised by you personally.. cause if you've ever used an 808 or 909 sample then you're obviously not as original as you'd like to think.
@ nuccle - we've seen all this b4 on here and the majority of us recognise whats good and whats not. keep doin what you do man, most of us love player records for exactly what it is. good party techno

theres an "artist" here called goran bregovic. plays and "composes" ethnic music. very popular. never wrote a song in his life.
for example, my teacher who was doing the sound design for a movie collected a bunch of old ethnic songs. bregovic just came by and put his name under the songs.
i know ignition didnt do anything that bad, but what ure saying is basically that just because someone/something is popular im supposed to overlook their moments of "fake"?

ah, so sound quality has everything to do with music. i see. so a kick sample is someones musical piece, a composition? i find its just a kick sample. using rythm loops, however, is already wrong (as it has a musical value). if u put ur name on a song it means u did the music stuff.
im not against using samples or even synths if u change them beyond recognition. it means u actually did some music work.
lifting someones main song theme, putting it as ur own song theme and calling it ur own song is beyond lame.
i mean, ud have no problem if someone took the aphex twin - on theme (the piano + pad), put a schranz loop (that uve heard in the "schranz essentials volume 3" loop pack) over it and called it his own song? its not his song, its aphex twin + a schranz loop (dj vinyl mashup [please dont sue me])

when did it stop being fun for you? jeez, lighten up - there are well respected producers out there who are running bootleg labels on the side but nobody seems to bothered about it.
music is meant to evoke feelings within you, be it happiness, saddness, anger, whatever. im pretty sure its not made to be analysed over until all the enjoyment dissappears.

just because i might personally think its shit doesnt mean it has less musical value than anything else. its not for me, you or anyone else to make that judgement. the ONLY thing we have a right to state is our own opinion based on our musical tastes.

i pretty much enjoy music man and it means very much to me. i have to over-analyse everything though because im just like that.
i talked to several friends about this topic the last night. i still cant get my head around the fact that someone actually thinks that this is good and that he/she would be so infuriated by the suggestion that it isnt that he/she has to call me names and offend me. it took me completely by surprise. i still cant believe it. its getting more and more apparent why some people i really respect left this place.
im not saying ure the one of the critical ones - u have a different opinion than me and ure argumenting it politely. thats to be respected, no matter how wrong i think u are. im talking about the guys who are insulting me for calling stealing - stealing.

Look lag, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, just as others are entitled to theirs.
There is no right/wrong (within reason) there's just music and what floats others boats, won't necessarily float your's.
You talk about name calling, but may i just remind you of this.
like hes retarded enough to be unable to play 4 tones on a synth
You implied a couple of very good techno producers are 'retards' on the basis of one track you disagreed with the concept of.
You could have just said, Nah, don't like this at all, i think its cheating. But instead you chose to be offensive and thats when thing got a bit heated.
That's why i came down pretty hard on you but i'm sure you wont lose any sleep over it.
i said "like hes". how is that impliying a "he is"
if i truly thought that he is retarded enough that he couldnt play 4 tones i would have just said "look, a retardus! trying to make music! how sweet."
and even if i have insulted them (how is it "them/multiple techno producers" all of the sudden?) i havent insulted you, have i? or is he your brother/girlfriend/dad?

i dont actually get that excited about it if it says its a bootleg man.
but some do.. personally i love most of the early clones and i love RWX.
i still cant believe it. its getting more and more apparent why some people i really respect left this place.
to be honest a lot of them left because they were elitist and couldnt accept the fact that people liked something that they didnt.
im talking about the guys who are insulting me for calling stealing - stealing.
first you shouldnt have been insulted, no need. but you're calling sampling stealing. whether or not the sampling is creative or not, its still sampling.
you yourself said that its ok to sample from differant genres, is sampling from a differant genre stealing aswell? if so you seem to condone it, if not why is only sampling from techno/dance stealing? (i hope you can see my confusion on this issue)
indeed, but no matter how much i dislike ignition technician stuff i never said anything about his music
try to remember that microdot, krimewave and ig technician have done a lot of tracks together on the player label thru the years and essentially thats the particular style we're debating here.

All techno must be made from new noises using new rhythm structures at new bpm levels.
Anything resembling anything else is officially rubbish.

im just saying, sign the track as it is.

i know a few guys who left and all of them left because someone went into a fight with them over nothing and was pretty unpleasant. witnessed a few of those too.

first of, do u know what "monkey sphere" is?
second, as i already explained, sampling from other genres has a punk quality to it. from what i know in the beggining the whole electronic scene had a big "**** you" attitude towards everything else so sampling from other genres came a bit natural. but then again, i dont remember someone taking the main ****ing theme, making it his own theme and calling it his own song. take fatboy slim for example. most of his songs are based on cut up pieces of old funk records. he cuts it up and takes the whole thing out of context, does some heavy processing and editing and it turns out as a completely different thing than the original (in which the sample is just 5% of the song).
electronic music is very minimal. if u take the MAIN THEME and use it as UR MAIN THEME with different beats - its a bootleg, not ur own song.

ive been in fights with a few and i can tell you most are started because acid or loopy or whatever isnt cool enough for them so they go and have a period.

are we talking about a differant fatboy slim? cause i can think of 5 of his tracks off the top of my head that sound like the original tracks with a beat thrown on.. and a fancy breakdown (that one that samples "the who" for a start).. still fun tunes though
and..?
all im saying is dont be surprised you're getting his back up when you're basically calling him a thief. the reaction certainly doesnt surprise me, i'd be the same.

heres another fatboy example
praise you - creative sampling? i dont think so.. still a classic rip though
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1zJGDQy1qA
its a different genre, its not 4 famous notes + the main theme at the same time, and its 5% of the song which is just an intro and fatboy slim put it into a completely different context. from what i remember about the song he did a lot of cutting up of the vocal etc.
and what if the re-work is better?
then we come back to this: if i take aphex twin - on, put a schranz loop over it and some schranzie likes it, that mean i can call it my own song?
ive been in fights with a few and i can tell you most are started because acid or loopy or whatever isnt cool enough for them so they go and have a period.

You dont like sampling in techno music , I do . . I think your a sound guy and i enjoy your music , I just taught this argument got very childish. music is music its allways been the end result that matters for me and not the way it was made.
Wilko is very hard working producer and dj... got respect that even if your not into the way he does it our how it sounds.
this argument got nasty when people started insulting me for my opinion (which happened as soon as i stated my opinion)
and i still dont get the "i dont care how it was made - end result matters!" argument
that kind of attitude would justify cheating and corruption and i was raised to despise those.

nobody is being sly or trying to pretend that theres no sampling going on.. its out in the open and celebrated, so i think you just need to get over your own issues with it and stop having a go at people for doing their thing.
if you dont like it then dont buy it - but dont dis the producer just because you have an opinion on the proper way to do things

krimewave - Lag is entitled to his own opinion on the matter and however you may feel theres no need to get quite so personal.
Lag - krimewave is entitled to make music whatever way he wants without having to listen to you calling him a thief because you have some issues with his workflow

yeah got to agree, though i woudln't go so far as to say it's libel...just not very friendly or respectful
...big difference between saying "i don't care for it when people use such-and-such samples. to me it's not what i look for or want to see in the genre"

like hes retarded enough to be unable to play 4 tones on a synth

ok, so you can type a link to a copyright law site. that still doesnt show how you came to the conclusion that krimewave is a thief, does it?
heres a few possiblities to digest:
1. he has paid royalties to original artists on tracks.
2. he knows original artists (remember that krimewave is in techno a long time and you dont know who he's friends with)
3. he didnt pay for or get permission to use samples
now, how can you be so sure without proof that he's a thief?
and more importantly what gives you the right to call him out over it considering that its actually none of your business
unless you happen to be the original artist.. are you secretly 808state?

didn't see that. but if someone says a person is a thief, and it's not true or there's no proof under the applicable laws, it's libel under UK law. maybe US too, i don't know.
but if he didn't say "you're a thief," then it's not libel even if implied. then it's just disrespectful.

so what?
im not wilko, i dont know what he has or hasnt got. and i dont need to know because im not the one accusing anyone of being a thief.
so just chill your boots please and drop this because you're goin down the wrong road on this.
haha. quite nicely done, how u made me look like the bad guy again for calling the man a thief two times already (which is wrong, as u say, because how the hell do i know if hes a thief - even though, krimewave, who seems to be better informed about ignition works, suggested that naming the song after the original would lead to sueing). anyway, i seem to be incompetent for further discussing, as im a bad man who does no good, and i would really like to apoligise to mr ignition for calling him a thief, to all involved for saying sampling techno and calling other peoples work ur own is wrong etc etc...
this forum will see me no more. rejoyce!

"than i called him a con artist, and only then did i call him a thief.
dear idiot,
I've been resisting telling you this all through the thread, but in all seriousness, I think you need to spend more time working on your own music and less time spouting off about other people's records.
you are saying that myself and Ignition Technician are trying to pass other people's work off as our own, which is completely untrue.
we sampled a few old rave records and updated them because they were either too slow, or were not well enough produced to play in sets alongside modern Techno trax (production has moved on a long way since the early 90s, even if creativity hasn't).
the records were actually made for our own personal use and nothing more.
most people with IQs in triple figures appreciate and understand the idea, including the original artists, who have all received copies of the vinyl.
the only thief here is you son, because you're a time thief.
and if you ever called me a thief to my face, I would cut off your balls and stick them up your ass (and then take your wallet).
but, of course you would never say it to my face, I know because I've encountered your kind a million times before on the internet (that's the only place you ever find them because they lack the stones to mouth off to people in person), and you all respond in the same way when someone points out what a cunt you are.
you've come on here and insulted people by calling them sad and retarded and then cried like a baby when you've got a bit of stick back.
I've met crackheads with more character than you to be honest kid.
have a word with yourself for fcuks sake.
to everyone else:
please stop quoting this philistine, because I'm putting him on my ignore list and I'd rather not read his tedious snivellings in other people's posts.
assuming I don't get banned of course.
I dont think you'll get banned jon.
This discussion is a little silly. Sampling is just one tool in the armory of any producer, as long as the samples are used in an interesting way i really dont see the problem.
Licensing is an issue for publishers and record labels, not for people having fun with music.

I compelety agree with this...
same way i buy some schranz remixs of techno tracks to be able to fit them into a mix
