Most people here are probably unaware of Hardscape.

Basically, in the mid 90's hardcore producers started to produce different music from the usual cheesy stuff that had saturated the scene. Drawing influences from many different genres, but mainly hard trance, a new sound which became known as Trancecore, and later Freeform was born. It defied musical boundaries and wasnt afraid to experiment.

However, it has now become the very thing it sought to escape from: formulaic, generic and stale. Hence the creation of Hardscape. Hardscape is doing now what early freeform did back in the 90's. Experimental music, not sticking to any pre-defined boundaries. Good music for the sake of good music and not to get easy sales by appealing to the masses.

Now what does this have to to with Techno? Techno is one of the main influences on one side of the Hardscape sound.

You can check out Hardscape material at http://www.clsm.net as well as searching on YouTube (check this page (http://uk.youtube.com/user/ElectruxHardscape) out). Theres also a cool mix by DJ Cotts on YouTube showcasing a lot of the material. Hardscape is a very new movement so the amount of material is limited (although I've been playing music from different genres in my hardscape sets) but its growing fast.

Comments please!
