This guy's a superstar. I'm lucky enough to have just heard his new double album on Gigolos. Now I know he uses alot of different engineers to help him craft his sound but I swear, if this guy isn't the true ethos of techno, I don't know who is. You can tell a Hell track a mile off and no-one else comes close.

Just listen hard to what he does. Each track starts, mutates, rolls, then rolls some more and then BAM you're hit with what can only be described as complete TECHNO - something totally unexpected and completely left of center. His early Magnetic North shit was priceless, his new shit is breaking boundaries AGAIN. CD1 of his new album is good but CD2 is another story entirely.

You know what I love about this guy? His tracks can last for 15 minutes and you still want some more. Even to this day, he's using those same tricks THAT NOONE ELSE CAN DO, or even come close to. **** minimal (and I do love minimal). This is maximal. HELL I love this guys sound.

Sprung aus den volken still remains one of my favourite tracks and i will work it into a mix as often as i can despite it being 140000000bpm too fast.

But Yeah, DJ Hell. When I went through my electro buying phase I bought loads of his stuff on gigalo. bloody good stuff.

i have a lot of respect for dj hell, even when i don't particularly care for his tracks. it's necessary for techno to have guys who don't follow the herd (and aren't really seeking to lead the herd either).

Somebody's got a mancrush...:yx:

Just yanking your chain, Mark.

Hell is completely hit or miss for me. Either I'm totally in love with what he does or I'm completely ambivalent. I'll have to pick up the CDs you're talking about, because good Hell is some of the most unique and impressive stuff around. He really does stretch the genre to lengths that no one else can reach.

been enjoying Hell's tracks for a number of years. i even digging the ones that are clearly tongue-in-cheek. saw him play out in the late nineties. mostly house/techno.

he's coming through NYC this month and I'm curious: anyone know what he sounds like out live these days? i'm sure not as straight-up as he was back then...

Hey Mark, is the CD you were referring to the IDG 11?
